EVELYN DIDN'T STOP the tears as she sobbed. Pan wrapped his arms around her neck and rubbed her back. "You know, I'm not that experienced with females crying. Am I doing a good job?" he asked.
He felt Evelyn's chest vibrate as she laughed through her tears. "You're doing just fine." She still cried but not as hard after his comment. Pan made her smile more than anyone else had and she was afraid that it was all a dream. And that she'd wake up alone and Pan and the boys would be nowhere in sight. "Am I dreaming?" she asked him.
Pan pulled back to look at her. "No. You're not dreaming."
He pushed a strand of her hair behind her ears and she sighed before looking at him. "I promise," she whispered, taking his promise from not too long ago.
