PRESENT Jessica POV (with some dialogue)
"Jessica honey, where were you after school while you were waiting to be picked up?" My mother said sweetly.
"Nowhere mom, why?"
"Well sweetie, you're going to have to tell me where you were first then I can tell you why."
I hope that she's not onto me with my daily experiments otherwise I'm toast...
"Do you think that I am lying about something, because I really was nowhere" I said wearily.
"Well, Jessica, nowhere has to be somewhere, tell me where you were!" She said angrily
"Nowhere! Just trust me dammit!"
She grabbed me by the ear and I squealed in pain. You know, usual mother daughter relationship.
"Okay okay, let go of my ear, I was in the science lab conducting an experiment to pass the time!" I said like a criminal under pressure.
Mom gave me a stern look and I shrugged, why does she care so much if I do a few experiments, it helps my learning...
"Jessica, the science lab has burnt down at 4:00 today, it's on the news. It wasn't an accident and if the cops find the culprit they'll try you for treason!"
OH NO! Why is this happening, I don't want to go to jail, I have Nobel prizes that I need to win in the future!
"Mom, we have to do something! What do I do? Do you have a secret hiding place or something?"
"Let's talk about why you were in the science lab after hours, Jessica Mandy Doberman, you know that you are not allowed!"
"I'm sorry mom..."
"Luckily you would have been wearing gloves and protective gear so you wouldn't have left any finger prints for forensics to analyse" mom sighed with relief.
"Uh um... I kinda, woulda, coulda, ummm... Not worn gloves!" I blurted out all in one breath.
"Jessica, I don't know what to do. Well all I can do is say... Go to your room!"
Well that was unexpected. I don't think mom has dealt with situations like this before and I am one hundred and ten percent sure that she is doing her head in by thinking of what to do next.
I ran upstairs to my room, my heart beating rapidly, my forehead sweating, I felt a little weird. I don't know why.
