Chapter Three

We soared over a clear, beautiful blue lake that seemed to sparkle. There were green fields that were so flat, you would've thought that they were rolled out with a rolling pin. We flew over some buildings that made the shape of the Greek symbol: Ω. There was a giant rock climbing wall with red liquid flowing down it-lava? I was really starting to question the safety violations in this place. There were Greek columns scattered across the field. On one side of the buildings, a small pavilion made up of more Greek columns stood tall as the sun set, casting shadows down near a strawberry field near the pavilion. On the other side of the buildings, a giant fighting arena stood, and even from above, I could hear the yells of warriors as they fought each other. The chariot flew past all this and landed on the outskirts of the camp, where a large oak tree stood tall, with something that looked like a golden quilt was hung on the lowest branch. A pile of cables was next to the trees.

"Hello, Peleus." Asher said. After saying this, the cables started to move. The thing stood up, and standing before me was a magnificent dragon. It's scales of lime green were beautiful. I could go on and on about it, but Asher snapped me out of it.

"So, let's get into camp!"

"Why didn't we just land in camp?" I asked. It seemed like a logical question.

"Camp rules. Now come on!"

"Stop."

"What?"

"Shhh."

I felt the earth shake. There were no earthquakes here, because I recognized Long Island Sound when we flew over it. Trees shook. Pebbles bounced. I heard a loud thump in the distance. Then it got closer. I saw a shadow pass over our heads. A rock fell and in front of us, a few inches away from Peleus the dragon. We turned around just in time to see the monster we would be facing.

This giant wasn't as big as the Cyclopes, but he was still plenty scary. His teeth were pointy and yellow, kinda like a vampire. His big tattooed arms angrily clenched a giant spiked club. He wore oversized gym clothes, which only made him slightly less intimidating. He smelled like old pizza that rotted in the street for weeks mixed with laundry detergent. Not a good combination.

"What is that thing?" I asked.

"Laistrygonian giants. Big cannibals."

The giant lifted his club and smacked the ground. He had really bad aim. But soon he spotted Asher. He smiled and said, "Well, well, well, two demigod children for me to destroy! Excellent!"

He grabbed Asher, like the Cyclops did with me in the alleyway. He yelled in fear. I felt a bolt of anger in my body. I barely even knew Asher, but already I felt like I should protect him when he's in danger. That's how I felt when anyone was in danger. I grabbed the nearest thing: a fallen branch from a nearby tree that was the size of a rifle, and ran up towards the beast. I smacked him in the knee. He looked towards me, disgust dawning on his face.

"Gah! Foolish girl. I shall have to kill you later when I am done with this one." he grumbled. He pulled his arm back, and at that moment I knew what he was going to do. He would throw Asher, and from the look of his biceps, he could throw pretty long and hard. I was so scared.  He was about to hurl him when I let out another one of my defying yells.

The Laistrygonian dropped Asher. He stumbled around, as if the world all of a sudden got blurry. "No," me murmured, "No. NO! Not again!" He started running as fast as a giant could go.

Asher groaned. He sat up, and I was glad he was alive. "What happened? How did you do that?"

I sighed as I walked over to him. "I don't know. I think I'll just--" And at that moment, I crumpled to the ground, and everything went black.
