I woke up the next morning in an unfamiliar room. I sat up in an unfamiliar bed as well. The bed was a small twin, with a patchwork quilt and ivory sheets. There was no pillow, but there was an alarm clock. It was nine o'clock in the morning. I quickly shot up and regretted it. My head throbbed as well as my bandaged hand. I was still wearing my clothes from yesterday, but my skinned knees were dressed and covered. I slowly sat up in the bed, feeling around my cardigan for a switch blade. When it wasn't there I looked around me on the bed. It was sitting on the dresser next to the alarm clock. I quickly snatched it up and slipped on my shoes. I had no idea where I was, and I was sure my parents were terrified. I opened the door a crack before stepping out. The room led into a small house. I knew that, because my home was similar, but much larger. I tip- toed down the creaky steps, preparing myself for a fight, but once I got down stairs, I was shocked at what I saw.

Dally and an older handsome man were sitting at the kitchen table, bickering and swearing. Then there were two boys watching the television in the other room, which I assumed was playing Mickey Mouse. As soon as I hit the last creaky step, everyone turned their heads to look at me.

I had my blade outstretched, and I was glaring as much as I could without causing pain. The older handsome one was the first to speak up.

"Well good morning princess, my name's Darry," he smiled at me kindly, "took a good beating last night now, didn't ya?" He smirked at me.

"Where the hell am I, and what happened?" I growled advancing on him.

Dally quickly stepped out and grabbed my shoulders. He was guiding me somewhere.

"What are you... let go of me!" I shouted.

"You need to see this." he said flatly.

He pushed me into the bathroom and spun me towards the mirror. I had a fat lip, and green bruises all over my face. The eye that I remember being swollen was just a big black circle, and I had cuts all over my shoulders. I silently gasped and touched my face.

"My parents are going to kill me!" I cried, looking away for a moment.

"That's what you're worried about?" Dally shouted "If I hadn't gotten there sooner they would've killed you! You would've been dead, and you're worried about what your parents will think?" He looked furious, then exhausted.

"You're the one who saved me?" I asked, completely shocked.

He just nodded and pulled me out of the bathroom.

"Let's go, I'm taking you home, before your parents issue a warrant for my arrest." He snapped grabbing some car keys. "Where do you live?" he asked.

"Wilbur street." I answered flatly, wishing I could crawl under a rock.

"Let's go." He said sharply, pushing me forward.

I don't know what made me do it, but I just snapped.

"What the hell is your problem?" I screeched, rounding on him. "One minute you're giving me cryptic messages, and the next, you're just being an asshole!" I cried, socking him in the arm. "Well I'm done. Jesus Christ I've had several conversations with you, and I already can't stand you!" I put my hand on my forehead, breathing heavily. "Just leave me be," I whispered softly. "I can take care of myself." I suddenly snapped at him.

"Because that definitely showed last night when you were getting beaten to death by those Socs." He said hotly "Just face it, you need me," His voice was rising "or you need someone to protect you from the hoods and perverts, cuz you're so damn gorgeous, they'll never leave you alone!" He snapped back at me, covering his face with his hands.

"Take me home." I pleaded softly.

"Tina..." He reasoned.

"I said take me home NOW!" I shouted, running to the passenger side of the car.
