Stars Among Us

Chapter 4

Cress gathered her skirts and skipped over to her friends. The grey silk she was wearing got stuck in a bolt as she tried to squeeze through a ship  and the thorn bush. "Wait" she squeaked Scarlet,Nora, and Thorne turned around and glared at her. Thorne tapped his shoes and Scarlet drummed her finger on her elbow and stared at her. Nora's eyes seemed to travel off into space waiting for Cress to get her skirt unstuck. Cress grunted then slammed against the bush. Cress's friends let out a long sigh of relief and Thorne helped her to her feet and they began walking towards Cinder. Scarlet sped ahead of the group and whisper-yelled "Cinder" Cinder's eyes darted to Scarlet and she beamed "Scarlet!" Cinder jumped down from the fountain and walked over to Scarlet Nora, Thorne, and cress followed behind Scarlet. Cinder's eyes lit up as she saw all of them come to her. She wrapped her arms around them and pulled them into an embrace. Nora felt Cinder's very cold metal hand on her neck. A shiver crawled up her back like a hand spider crawling up her spine. She ignored it for she did not want to Be rude. The embrace was cut short by Thorne's voice as he broke away from Cinder's arm "we have company" he said pointing a shaky finger at more guards stampeding down the marble palace steps. There was a whirr and Nora collapsed, Cress and Scarlet followed falling limp on the concrete ground. Thorne hurried over to Cress, with so much terror spread across his face "is she.." He said shakily looking at Cinder "oh stars no they just shot her with a tranquilizer" cinder said. "Why?" Thorne asked "they didn't want hurt anyone else, plus they have no proof they're on our side" Cinder said, her voice sounding casual .Cinder ducked a bullet. "Now they just wanna shoot us" Cinder said as she got to her knees and began to crawl. Thorne followed her on his hunches. Cinder held her metal hand up a little bit off the ground and shot a dart at the guards, it ricocheted off the marble steps missing  by a hair. Cinder cursed under her breath as she slowly hauled herself up and hid behind one of the Lunar spacecrafts. Thorne got behind the craft too and peered out from behind. The guards were getting closer. "Cinderr"  Thorne roared. "I know, I know" she said reloading her hand with more darts. Thorne's eyes darted from the guards to Nora, Scarlet, and Cress's body. He cursed and stumbled over to them, dodging flying bullets. He had realized how hard it would be to get them to safety. Cinder clamped a hand on Thorne's collar and yanked him off the ground. Cinder gave him a look that said, what he hell are you doing? Cinder ran behind the crafts and skidded to a stop in front of a door that looked like a subway entrance but much more modern. She rammed her elbow into the I.D scanner until she saw it begin to smoke. She hauled open the doors and began to run down the steps then realizing she had left Thorne. She ushered him over. "What about them?" He said pointing at the girls. "Ugh, never mind I'll go alone" Cinder said rolling her eyes then turning and rushing down the steps. Thorne looked down at the bodies. He gnawed on his cheek then began pacing. What was he gonna do? Wait until they woke up? Cress seemed to read his mind as her eyes fluttered open. When she saw Thorne hovering over her she went crimson red. Thorne pulled her to her feet as Nora began to get up as well. Scarlet though, woke up screaming. Everyone's attention went over to her, Scarlet stopped screaming and sat there panting before getting up calmer. "What w-" Thorne began to stammer until Scarlet cut him off "shut it"
