Dagonet's wedding was a strange affair, especially since I knew I was attending the event a month in advance.
He was wearing red formal robes, and working hard to keep the ridiculous grin off his face. Gawain, Guinevere, Hazel and Tristan were also here, but it appeared that the rest of my brothers were not invited. Just as well, this was supposed to be a private affair.
Nimue was wearing a blue lacy dress that flowed like water behind her. She was smiling, one of the only times I had ever seen her smile.
"I wish they weren't getting married," Porphia whispered. "It's a slap in Adele's face and they fight so much."
"Couldn't they have just stayed together?" I whispered back. "Unmarried?"
"Doesn't give them a good reason to move out of the Torninc and Vercyne," Porphia replied. "Also, Adele hasn't handled this well. It was marriage or separation. These two are magnetic."
Dagonet leaned forward to murmur in Nimue's ear, and she rolled her eyes. Together, they listened to the binding mage speak.
"What does that even mean?" I asked.
"They attract and repel each other," she told me. "She's the immovable object and he's the unstoppable force."
"You could have written their vows," I joked, but quietly. Even so, Guinevere glanced behind her, giving me a warning glance. "Also, did you notice that Hazel and Tristan are here together?"
Porphia nodded. "Beside your two families, not many nobles are under one hundred. Now that Parsifal married a commoner, your family has quite the stigma. But I think Tristan and Hazel are going about this quietly, calmly, and slowly. No one knows yet."
"Well, after today they will," I pointed out.
"Today is a month from now," she replied with a smile.
I was starting to understand why talking to Porphia was so confusing.
"Do you want to stay for the dinner afterwards?" I asked.
"I don't see why not," Porphia said. "Though, hush, they're almost done."
"I pronounce you Dagonet and Nimue Guerre," the binding magic declared and the small audience clapped as the couple kissed. Sparks flew from where they touched, but both of them were smiling as they walked past us.
"Now what?" Tristan wanted to know. "Dinner, anyone?"
"Nimue told me earlier to meet at their house," Guinevere told her little brother. "Gather around, we can meet them."
We formed a sort of ring and then reappeared at a cottage in the middle of nowhere. A huge lake was just inches from the side of the house, but other than that, I wasn't sure where we were.
Nimue opened the door for us, and we filed in.
"Well, congratulations," Gawain told Dagonet. "You're a married man."
"And only time will tell if that is a good thing," Dagonet replied with a smile.
"Watch it, husband," Nimue called. "Let's not fight on our wedding day."
The women left for the kitchen and the wedding presents. Hazel gave me a wink as she left, though I had no idea why.
"We went to Martel," Tristan said. "Got Nimue a water gun."
"A what?"
"Dinadan was telling us about them," he explained. "It's hollow, and you fill it up with water and then when you pull the trigger, it shoots out water."
