What's your views on Baptism? What is it to you?
My answer
These are the Bible verses that were written in my Teen Study Bible from my parents for the day of my Baptism. The Lord will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
~Psalm 91:11Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses...
~Hebrews 12:1When I got baptised in July 2014, one year after my dad died, I came to realise what my faith really ment.
It wasn't about seeing God but knowing that he's with you.
Like the poem 'Footprints' when we're in the darkest of times that's when God is there the most to carry you.
To begin with, I wanted to get baptised because of my brother.
When my brother got baptised he inspired me to take that extra leap within my journey with God.
But as I did some mentor sessions based on Baptism, I came to realise that it's not just about inspiration but the fact that your committing yourself to God.
I did have thoughts to get baptised earlier but I guess nerves got in the way as a result I had to share my testimony to the whole church.
However thinking back to them moments, I just think that I was rushing into things within my timing and didn't really think about God's timing. To me baptism is a way of seeking Gods presence.
My baptism mentor thought if it as this way:
Before you go in the water you are unclean and sinful.
But as soon as you're in the water, that's where the change takes place.
Your sins are washed away and you feel clean. That's how I felt as soon as I rose from the water.
It's a bit like Jesus' death...
Jesus took our mistakes so that we could be free.
He died (same as when we're in the water) and was buried.
But in three days he rose again (when we rise out of the water).
Jesus then ascended into heaven as the sun was gone from him because he had to die in order to be resurrected.
Before his death, he was unclean.
But as he went to join his father in Heaven, he was clean and his sons were washed away.
