I bite what's left of my nails as I stare up at the clock on the wall, one minute, one minute until I meet Eric and we go off to my house where I tell him what I've hidden for so long; I don't know whether to be relieved or scared or both. I blink and flinch when the bell shrieks throughout the classroom. I watch as everyone grabs their bags and rush out the door as fast as possible, as if if they don't get out of the classroom in 10 seconds flat then the doors will lock shut and never let you out.
I begrudgingly pick up my bag and trudge out of the classroom sending a tiny smile to Mrs Barenza who smiles widely at me whilst she wipes the whiteboard down, clearly startled that a student actually acknowledged her without a snide comment. As I walk sheepishly out of my science classroom I see Eric leaning up against the wall, arms crossed with a trimmed raised eyebrow.
"You took your time." He said, whilst scooting off the wall. I readjusted my bag strap anxiously.
"Yeah well I didn't think you would be here so fast, did you run or something?" he grinned in what I can only describe as a boyish manor.
"I would run a thousand miles and have a thousand an hour to get to you on time." I wince and he lets out a gusty laugh at my reaction, showing his dimples in all glory.
"Are these the sort of lines you use on Lou?" he grins whilst wrapping his arm lightly around my shoulder, giving my shoulder a slight squeeze fondly as we start to walk along the corridor.
"Oh course, how else do you think I manage to keep her?" I chuckle lightly and place my finger on my chin in a thinking pose.
"Oh absolutely, it wouldn't be the fact that you are incredibly sweet and good-looking." I reply sarcastically. He grins widely at me in surprise and places his hand on his heart.
"Did Amy Clarke just say I was good looking?" I feel a blush burn involuntarily onto my cheeks. I punch him in the chest, trying to hide my embarrassment, why I am I so easily flustered? He yelps but still smiles at me, his eyes sparkling at the sight of the red tint to my cheeks.
"Aw you're blushing." I groan and hide my face in his neck as we walk out of the double doors and along to the school gates.
"But seriously, thanks." He says, giving my shoulder another light squeeze as I appear from his neck grumbling,
"You're welcome jackass."
We walk along in comfortable silence, scuffing our shoes as we kick small stones of ground up gravel along the pavement, each time trying to get further than each other. It's a good job there aren't any stressed parents hurrying to pick up their children from school otherwise we probably would have been strangled by now with all the shoves and stops we're doing. I stomp down on Eric's foot and grin as he lets out a howl and grabs his foot whilst I run for the stone he was about to kick and put all my power into propelling the stone along the pavement. I fist bump the air and dance around Eric in victory as I see it went into the road, which was my aim. He glares up from the ground where he is sitting nursing his foot with an unimpressed, grumpy face. I bite my lip trying to contain a giggle but quickly fail and dissolve into giggles as I see him rub his foot and prop his chin on his knee like a four year old.
