The morning of the wedding day was one of the most beautiful days I'd seen in a while, and since the wedding was going to hold in Protea Hotel, I was woken up around 3 to move to the hotel for my makeup and dressing, the entire bridesmaids along with the flower girls were placed in a suite while the bride stayed in a different suite and the groom another suite. I was still wondering if my dress would be my size cos I wasn't informed of my role as a bridesmaid on time resulting in me not getting to measure and tryout my dresses beforehand.
"hi, my name is Tade" I said to another bridesmaid who was fair and pretty
" I'm Ejiro" she replied giving me a stunning smile
" the blue of your hair really suits you" I say trying to make conversation while the makeup artists were attending to other bridesmaids
" thank you, so are you a friend of the bride" she replied, her eyebrows going up in enquiry
" No, the groom's cousin, you?" I replied
"well, I'm a work colleague" Ejiro replied
"so basically, you guys are close?" I ask
" well not really, but we're cool"
"what's she like" I ask again looking for a good reason to carry out my revenge plan( I know she'll only get married once so... Anyway I don't think I have the guts to follow through, especially since my cousin Dolapo was involved)
" well she's pretty okay, nice and selfless, we're pretty much only 6 women where we work and the rest are older so you understand why we had to be friends, she's a great person "
Ejiro replied looking at me quizzically
" she was my senior in secondary school " I replied like it was an explanation for my question
" Oh, I see, one you didn't particularly like? "Ejiro asked
" one I hated, she was a bully then, you can't imagine the shock when I realized she was Dolapo's fiancée " I replied
" you know, I feel you are still holding a grudge, let it go, I can't imagine you went to secondary school and didn't send a junior on errand or even punish one, so you should understand, someone out there somewhere might think you are the worst person she has ever met in her life, there is beauty in forgiveness" Ejiro lectured taking my hands
I didn't realize I was crying until a tear fell on my arm
" it's so hard to let go but I'll try, thank you" I said to Ejiro
Picking up my bag, I picked up a sheet of paper and my pen and decided to write a note to TejiriTejiri,
Welcome to the family, I hope you have a wonderful and fruitful marriage and hope it turns out to be everything you wish and want, I forgive you and hopefully, we can be friends and get to know each other better.
TadeI showed the letter to Ejiro who smiled and nodded and proceeded to Tejiri's suite to give her the letter.
I knocked and waited
" who is there?" an unfamiliar voice asked
" Tade, I have something for the bride" I replied
The door opened and immediately I entered Tejiri's face fell
I walked towards her with a small smile and handed her the letter
"what is this?" she asked looking scared
"go ahead and open it " I encouraged her
She opened it tentatively as if the letter would turn and bite her and I just kept smiling
When she finished reading it she was shocked
She flew at me for a hug and kept telling me "thank you, thank you"
" You know, you're the first sister I'm getting" I said and smiled
To be honest my mind felt freer and relaxed
I waved and proceeded back to the bridesmaids' suite
"hurry " Ejiro mouthed at me when I got back, it was my turn to be made up
Hurriedly walking over I took my seat
" good morning" I said to the makeup artist
"good morning " he replied and proceeded to do my makeup and I kept quiet all through, and just kept thinking about Tejiri
I still couldn't believe I forgave her, but it felt good.By the time everybody was done with their makeup we were handed our dresses. It was a long sleeved, off shoulder, wine coloured long mermaid dress and surprisingly mine fit like a glove. It was perfect, the chief bridesmaid wore the same dress in colour peach. And the flower girls wore wine Cinderella dresses. Altogether there were 7 bridesmaids, 2 flower girls and a little bride.
We all assembled downstairs, waiting for the bride to proceed so we could get to the church by 10 am. When Tejiri arrived she was looking so stunning that I almost shed a tear.
She proceeded to enter the Range Rover with the little bride
The bridesmaids proceeded to enter 3 vehicles along with the bride's parents. When we arrived the church, the groomsmen were already there and the program began, the bridal train took their turns walking to the altar. Throughout my walk all the only thing I could think of was not falling down, and I was glad when I finally got to where I stood.
Looking around I saw Mide seated beside my mum and brothers and I became nervous all over again although it was soon forgotten when Tejiri started walking down the aisle with Christina perry's one step closer playing and Dolapo was crying, it was so romantic and I began imagining who could love me that much (I know it's silly, besides, who would I even let in to be that close).
After the priest pronounced them married they proceeded to do the traditional "kiss the bride" but Tejiri was shy and that made it super cute, they exited the church to John Legend's the beginning and proceeded to the reception.
On my way out Mide pulled me aside and whispered "it'll be our turn in 6years time"
I could only reply with a hiss and continued on my way.The wedding reception was super lit, the venue was a glass hall, and there were purple lights everywhere that gave the place a magical glow, the chandeliers were out of this world, really pretty and everything was perfect.
After the bridal train danced in(trust na, I danced like it was my wedding day), Dolapo and Tejiri had a very grand entrance, they came in through the front and did a choreographed dance and in that moment I truly admired their relationship, there seemed to be something genuine there(especially with the way Dolapo was always glancing at her and smiling like he hit a jackpot)
sometime later when they asked all the young people to come and dance I felt someone tugging on my arm, when I saw it was Mide I just felt exhausted
"Don't you ever give up?" I asked raising a brow in query
"Nah, babygirl, that's for losers, come on, one dance won't kill you"
I just let him lead me as I was too tired to argue and I was glad I had already changed to comfortable slides. Unfortunately, the song they started playing was my jam by Tiwa Savage, Allover(Whenever I hear that song it's like I lose all my home training) I didn't know when I started dancing on Mide, my mind was so in the music, I saw a couple people staring but when I'm in the mood, I'm in the mood, I was too into my dance to care.
when the music stop I just leaned back and realized I was leaning on Mide, I was so embarrassed and I moved a bit, He laughed and pulled me closer
"I never knew you could dance, you were amazing" he said looking at me intently
"You barely know me, Mide!" but somewhere in my mind, I was thinking 'mahn, this dude is smooth' and it didn't help that he was hot as hell. He led me back to my seat and left me with a wink that looked like it promised more.
immediately I sat down Ejiro came up to me
"your boyfriend is fine"
"he's just a schoolmate" I replied her
"okay, so are you guys in the pre-dating stage?" she asked again and I burst out laughing
"is there anything like pre-dating stage?" I asked her
"pre- dating stage is when you know you guys will end up dating but you'll be forming friends or whatever" She replied
"No, we won't date" I replied her
"okay, but I must say, you are not convincing, Plus you guys looked so good together on the dance floor" she shrugged and took a sip of her drink.
After the party ended I looked everywhere for my parents but couldn't find them, Mide came up to me and mentally I was like not again
"I'm your Chauffer tonight" Mide said
"Thanks but no, I'm waiting for my parents"
" your mom convinced your dad I was capable of being your chauffeur"
"no way, I'll just get a uber ride"
"come on Tade, let's just go, its getting late" he said and for once I saw Mide looking tired and weary so I just went with him.
