Mundane |ˌmənˈdān|

            noun

Of, relating to, or a characteristic of the world; characterized by the practical, transitory, and ordinary; commonplace.

[Editor's Note]: Contrary to what it may seem, a great deal of Dean and Elena's relationship was actually quite normal. At least in the beginning, they did all they could to have a normal relationship in and around their lifestyle. I was quite impressed by the way they followed the standard course of action of human relationships. The following events are some examples of their normalcy.

July 5th, 2016

Elena rolls over, grumbling as she stirs from her peaceful sleep. She flops onto a firm chest, frowning with her eyes still closed.

"Morning, damsel," Dean murmurs, his voice rumbling in his chest. Elena lifts her head, looking up at Dean.

"You know, one of these days we could spend the night in my room," Elena mumbles, pulling the sheets up around her body. "Would help prevent me from running into Sam practically naked."

"It was one time," Dean defends, wrapping his arms around her and squeezing tight. He glances around, pursing his lips. "But given the fact that your clothes are currently in the kitchen..."

"You're the worst," Elena teases, pushing off his chest and sitting up.

"Take my robe," Dean says, propping up on his elbows. He lifts his chin in the direction of the door. "Go get dressed and meet me in the shower room?"

"See you there." Elena clambers off the bed, reaching for Dean's robe and tying it around herself. Dean smirks, watching her twirl out of the room. She shoots him one last wink before disappearing down the hallway.

By the time Elena reaches the shared shower room, Dean is already standing at the sink with a toothbrush in his mouth. She smiles at him in the mirror, picking up her own toothbrush and coming to stand beside him.

"So what's your friend's name again?" Elena talks around her toothbrush, her eyes meeting Dean's in the mirror.

"Jody," Dean says, leaning forward to spit in the sink. When he stands back up, he notices the frown on Elena's face. "What's wrong?"

            "Nothing."

"It's clearly not nothing. Tell me." Putting the toothbrush aside, Dean picks up a bottle of shaving cream. He starts the process as Elena wipes her mouth of toothpaste. "Elena."

"It's just..." Elena turns, hands on the sink. "I haven't met any of your hunter friends yet. And the way you talk about this Jody... I don't know. She seems very—"

            "Scary?"

"I was going to say motherly, but that works too," Elena says, laughing slightly to relieve the tension in her chest. She turns away from Dean, reaching into one of the cabinets for her makeup bag. She keeps her gaze down as she continues. "And I don't know. I mean, I know you and Sam are alright with my past. You know, the whole used to be a vampire and dated vampires thing. But hunters in general seem... old fashioned. And—"

"Whoa, Elena, breathe," Dean says, nearly nicking himself with the razor. "Jody isn't like that. She knows you've moved on from that life. That you're a different person. Just like I do."
