So boring. Baekhyun plucked the petals off the forget-me-nots one by one and flung them onto the dirt below. He sat on a branch of a huge tree and stared off into the distant horizon. The only sound present was the waves hitting the beach rocks and the occasional squawks of passing-by seagulls; that annoyed him. Houses were scarcely scattered around the small sleepy island with no one in sight; that annoyed him as well.
He felt the urge to do something fun, but the other boys of his age were all a year or two older and they all left the island to attend the "elementary to middle school celebration". He wished he was born just a little earlier; he could then spend more times with his friends. Sure, he could play on his own for now, but that had been what he was doing the past hour, and there was one more to go. His homework was still undone, but that was even more boring, he did not even get what the questions were asking. He could take a nap, but he just woke up three hours ago, besides, how would he know if they came back. He decided he was going to stay on the branch until their boat comes.
The ship horn sound made Baekhyun jump off the branch immediately and sprint towards the dock. Yixing and one of their other friends, Kris, did not even get a chance to steady their feet before being dragged down by Baekhyun.
"Finally! Do you know how bored I was? I almost wanted to get on a boat to find you guys."
They and two other boys, Luhan and Junmyeon, decided that their age was still suitable for hide-and-seek and they noisily raced towards the woods. Baekhyun was an expert in hiding, one time they could not find him for more than half an hour, it was Yixing who eventually found him after several times of promising that he won the game. The game already started and Yixing still stood there looked indecisive of where to hide, so naturally, Baekhyun grabbed him and ran. The mini waterfall was a perfect hiding place. The thin silver veil spilled down drizzled onto the rocks, acting as screen separating them from the others. No one could possibly find them unless they purposely looked behind the waterfall.
Which was exactly what happened.
They were squatting down and Baekhyun bombarded Yixing with questions about the ceremony. Hearing that nothing interesting happened there as well made Baekhyun feel so much better about his own afternoon. Baekhyun was naturally loud; it was probably why Luhan was able to detect their location. Luhan's voice suddenly appeared and it was advancing closer and closer to their hiding place. It was embarrassing for Baekhyun to even look at Yixing. He had promised him they would here for at least twenty minutes.
"I know there's someone here."
"Stay here." He whispered to Yixing and strutted out behind the waterfall.
"Well, I guess you caught me." He threw his arm on Luhan's shoulders and nonchalantly skipped away.
Hah! He had successfully diverted Luhan's attention, he felt heroic.
Yixing won that game in the end and Baekhyun was proud to say the very least. They played several more until Baekhyun's dad called him back to have dinner, Yixing went along as well because his parents were out celebrating their 12th anniversary.
His dad was exceptional at cooking, they devoured everything like wolves. During Yixing's short water break from eating, Baekhyun's father asked him where Yixing's parents went. I thought my dad told him, he thought. While he was gulping down his mouthful of water, Baekhyun already answered for him; Baekhyun's dad made a sound of realization.
Baekhyun sat on the top of the stone stairs. Yixing said that he was going to get something and told him to wait. So he waited. Holding something between his palms, Yixing slowly approached him. Just as they were one step away, Yixing stopped and opened his hands a little for Baekhyun to see. A firefly! Baekhyun lifted his head to face Yixing's, his face filled with delight and surprise.
"You said they make wishes come true," Yixing explained and placed it into Baekhyun's hands.
With a tiny scream, he hugged Yixing tightly, "You still remember this?" This is the best.
"Yeah, I don't know" Yixing sat down next to him, "maybe to thank you for the game?"
"We are friends, that's what friends do."
"Yeah."
