Dark
warm
Dark
Does it...
Hurt?
Yes...
Thoughts floated in and out, fuzzy. It was like watching the clouds. Forever.
Noisy
Whimpers?
Yes
Dog?
No...
Her eyes cracked open. The dim glow from the monitor to her right felt like too much, and she turned her head away. She gazed blearily at the face next to her. It was contorted with pain. The whimpers came from that direction.
Aisuru blinked, trying to get her tired eyes to focus. Law, she realized with a whimper of her own, Is he hurt? She tried to roll over. A dull pain in her right elbow stopped her. She groaned, and instantly regretted it. Her throat felt like fire. She became dimly aware that her whole body ached.
Can't remember... What happened...
She turned her head the other way. Her arm was connected to two bags of fluid, reflecting green in the dark. She opened and closed her mouth slowly, deciding to remove the handicap from her arm. Her left hand flopped over, fingers barely feeling anything at all.
She stifled another groan, fumbling with the needles in her arm. With a slight pulling feeling, she managed to remove them. The machine made an angry sound. It ate at her already incoherent thoughts. Constant whine.
Hate
She sat up, now forced to notice the uncomfortable mask. It began blowing air erratically into her nose and mouth.
Annoying
Aisuru brushed at her ears with both hands, and the mask flopped into her lap. The glowing machine was still whining.
Hate
She pushed buttons until it stopped. The glow blipped out.
Dark. Quiet. Good.
Her attention was drawn back to the whimpers.
Who?
She frowned, eyebrows drawn together. She crawled into the bed with the person, feeling their nightmare. He was covered in sweat, twitching. Aisuru felt his face. Scruffy sideburns and a ghoti.
"Law." She barely made a sound. She blindly felt her way under the sheet with him. She sat on top of him, leaning forward. Her balance was only slightly off, and she managed to keep herself in check without falling.
Aisuru felt like her hands were stupid. They couldn't make the intricate motions she wanted. It was almost as if she were drunk.
Annoying
She was able to hold his damp face, rubbing his cheeks with her thumbs. It seemed to help. The twitching stopped, and some of the tension eased from his forehead.
"Hey," another voice called quietly.
Interrupting. Calm voice, not a threat.
She continued to touch Law's face, ignoring the person walking up to them until she couldn't anymore.
"Hey," he repeated, putting a hand on her shoulder, "Everyone's gonna be glad that you're awake right now. Everyone but the captain."
She tried to shrug him off. 'Everyone' didn't matter.
