Chapter I:

It was no secret that the rebels were currently winning the war.

Daddy had been trying to keep my siblings and I from knowing the truth, so no one would tell us directly; but we saw how on edge he and the war generals were, we knew that we were no longer able to visit the capital because it had been seized and was now under the control of the rebels, we heard the nervous whispers and gossip of the servants and staff throughout the castle, and we physically saw the hundreds of wounded, discouraged soldiers return whenever my father ordered a new strike.

I guess he thought the truth would worry us, but it didn't. The Harts have ruled over the island of Arcadia and the werewolf species since the Magna Venationibus of 1859, and we would continue to rule over them for the years to come. When my father dies, my older brother, Rion, will take the throne and then after he dies, his son will do the same and so on. The Hart Dynasty will always prevail. We will never allow traitors to come and take what is rightfully ours.

There has been many times, before my birth, that rebels have stormed the castle and an attempt to overthrow the royal crown. Every attempt has failed.

This wasn't a new enemy.

My father had been at war with Alexander Lupus, the leader of the rebels for more than 20 years.

Alexander was once a good friend of my father and a high-ranked noble, but that wasn't enough for him. He wanted more. He wanted the throne, my father's throne. Driven by his lust for absolute wealth and power, Alexander secretly built an army of supporters and stormed the castle during the night. There was a gruesome and bloody battle, thousands of men were hurt and killed, the West Wing had been completely burned down, but my father's men managed to drive Alexander and his men out the castle without a single casualty to the royal family.

This happened before I was born, but I still heard older soldiers telling the story of that horrible night. My entire life had been filled with war and destruction and pain, yet I still had absolute faith in my family.

Even though our lives were constantly filled with war, my father still managed to spoils us with his love and material things. He made sure that he gave all six of his children an hour of his day, and once a month, he would leave little gifts under our pillow. Sometimes it would be extra money or sometimes it would be little trinkets he picked up from the gift shop when he went into town. it didn't really matter to me what he gave me. There was just nothing sweeter than knowing that we were constantly on his mind and that we literally our father's whole world.

My siblings would often say that I was his favorite because I looked the most like Mom, but I didn't believe them. I genuinely believed that he loved us all equally, but of course, they didn't believe that especially because my eighteenth birthday ball was coming up and he told me to get whatever I wanted while the rest of my siblings claimed they had strict budgets.

The only reason that I believe that I don't have a budget is because I'm the youngest, and this is going to be the last time that he's going to have to throw a Ad Setatem, a coming of age, ball.

In Werewolf Society, turning 18 was literally the best night of your life. At the stroke of midnight, you changed into your wolf for the first time and you began to age slower. Once you have changed into a wolf, you were then able to find your mate, which is why when most wolves turned 18, the ones that can afford it, throw huge balls and invite everyone.

I have literally been planning this ball since the day I turned 17. It was going to be one of the biggest moments of my life. I was finally going to be formally introduced into Werewolf Society and into the Royal Arcadian Court. No longer would my father and his nobles look at me as if I was a child. I would finally be one of them.
