Chapter IV:

So far, my birthday ball was a success.

It was nearing midnight, and everything was perfect. The ballroom was decorated beautifully, the tables were covered with scrumptious smelling food, there were plenty of servants walking around passing out snacks and drinks, and there were thousands of nicely dressed Alphas, Betas and their children, 18 and up, of course, walking around, flirting, eating, and just having an amazing time.

I'd seen a couple of the guest around court once or twice, but others were complete strangers. I noticed that Ophelia and Rion walked around with an air of confidence, greeting and smiling at everyone. It did not surprise me though. They were introduced to the Arcadian Court years ago and were well acquainted or friends with most of the people here because the two of them actually enjoyed making friends while I did not see the point. I had like thirty siblings, please take note of the sarcasm, so having friends always seemed pointless.

Well that, and let's be honest, I'm not the friendliest person.

Now that I was in the party, I realized that I was worried for nothing. Charming the nobles was an easier task that I originally realized. What I didn't know before was that they were trying to please me, they were trying to suck up to me. All I had to do was greet them, smile pretty, ask questions as if I were interested in their pack, and thank them for coming to the party. It was easy peasy, really.

And so far, everything was good. Daddy was sitting safely on the ballroom throne, surrounded by plenty of armed guards. There hadn't been any attempt on his life, but the guards were still on high alert.

The guest were oblivious to the fact that we could all die tonight, and for a quick second, I wished that I was too. For a second, I let my mind wander. What would it be like to not be royalty, to live a normal, werewolf life?

Pshhh! What is wrong with me? There's nothing better than being on top of the food chain. I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world.

I was enjoying life, especially right now. There was wine everywhere, and if you know me, you know that wine is my absolute favorite drink. I'd had at least four glasses, and right now I was working on finishing my fifth.

"Are you drunk?" Tavvy demanded, balling her fist and placing it on her hip.

Octavius was standing behind her with his arms crossed, an uncomfortable expression on his face. It didn't surprise me. He was extremely antisocial, and people avoided him like a plague, not because he was tall and muscular but because a couple of years ago at the Founder Day's Festival in Lamia, he snapped out of nowhere, ruining the festival and injuring five people. Luckily, they were over 18, so they healed quickly, but it was an event, no one could forget.

"Nope," I replied in a sing-song with a lazy grin. "Just a little tipsy."

She frowned, and took the glass from me. "Olivia, you are being extremely irresponsible," she chided in a hushed tone. "You need to stop drinking. Your mind and body both need to be on high alert."

I burped. "It's almost 12, and nothing has happened yet," I replied. "You need to loosen up, have some drinks, enjoy yourself."

"Liv-"

"I will talk to you later, Tavvy. I'm trying to enjoy myself," I told her. Rolling my eyes, I whirled on my heels and sashayed towards the food table, stopping only to say thank you to guests when they wished me a happy birthday.

The food table was easily my favorite thing at the party. It was a long table, covered with a long, hot pink tablecloth and rose petals, and sitting on top of it were all of my favorite finger foods and drinks: a chocolate fountain, strawberries, pineapples, hot wings, hors d'oeurves, chips and crab dip, shrimp, calamari, caviar, chicken tenders, juices, wines, liquors, and many, many more.
