It's been a few months since Rai started guarding me. I found out she could hear my thoughts so we could talk all the time. She was usually always around, but once in a while she had to go.

Today was the day she came back. I was excited to play so as usual after school I took my snack out to our tree.  I took my seat and waited. It was the last week of school and it was only four more days until school was done. Then I would be off to first grade.

"Hey!" Rai shouted. I looked up and saw her flying down on white wings. She landed in front of me a little higher than usual. The reason being that her wings were pretty big dragging to the floor if she were to stand on it.

"You're back! I asked mom to put avocados today since you like them so much." I offered her a half. "How was training?"

"Fun! We learned to go into dreams and spellcasting. And to dance! We did all sorts of things!" She sounded so excited.

"To dance?" I asked as she tucked her wings away.

"Yup." She put her arms up like she was dancing with someone. "It feels amazing to dance." She started moving her feet and she spun gracefully.

"Wow." I watched hypnotized. "Can you teach me?"

She stopped and looked at me  surprised. "Really?"

"Yeah. I keep teaching you sports but you can teach me to dance. It look like it's fun."

She leaped happily and took my hand to stand me up. "Okay, your hands go here." Rai instructed placing one of my hands on her waist and the other in the air holding hers. Then her hand was on my shoulder. I looked down and noticed her legs were bent.

       "Can't you stand?" I asked.

Shaking her head she replied, "I'll touch the floor if I do."

I thought about it. Well she could always stand on chairs and tables. Once she even stood on a book. "Maybe you could stand on my toes?"

Her face went red. "You sure?" I nodded. "Okay." Slowly she relaxed her body and I felt her toes perch on mine. It was like a pair of birds had landed.

      "Better?" I asked, she nodded.

"Okay. So this is called a waltz. Do you know left and right?" She sounded like teacher.

"This one is right." I said tapping my fingers on her side where she placed my hand. She jumped a little being startled by my movement.

"Yes." Even though she was speaking softly but her voice sounded much louder.

That's when I realized this was the closest we had ever been. It was a little weird, but it seemed normal. I always watched mom and dad dance when we were at parties and they we usually this close or more.

"So a waltz is basically making a square with your feet." She started explaining. "Move your left foot forward." I followed instructions stiffly so I wouldnt knock her off.

"Ah! Smaller steps! That's too big!" She wobbled. "You're going to do the splits!" She started laughing as I apologized and shortened my step.

"It's okay. Just remember, little steps. Now bring your other foot next forward but out to your right." I complied feeling funny because my legs were open. "Bring your left foot with your right. Like that. This part seems silly, but now quickly go on your toes."

          I made a face. "But you'll fall."

"No I won't. You're not going on your tippy toes, just your toes." Rai corrected me. When I still wouldn't do it she gave me a light smack on the head, "just do it." It felt funny, but I did as she said. "Good, now your right foot goes back one step. And your left swings met to your door but then goes out to the left. There."

"I feel like I'm bouncing more than dancing." I complained.

"It's part of the dance!" She frowned at me.

"Okay okay." I accepted I would look silly the whole time. "Then what?"

"You repeat it." She instructed me over and over. Then after a few times going in a square she said, "let's try turning."

I listened to her and followed her directions, and at first I struggled, but once I got it, I couldn't forget. She didn't even have to count anymore!

"See you got it!" Rai exclaimed.

I high fived her when I heard mom. "Shawn!" I knew I was the only one who could see Rai so i didn't worry.

"Yes?" I called back as she made her way over to me.

"Where did you learn to waltz like that?" She looked at me amazed.

"Uh..." I came up with something quick. "T.v." Rai laughed.

"Well you learn fast! How would you like to take dance lessons?" She waited eagerly for my answer.

I thought about it. It was fun what I just learned, and all the adults try to get me to dance at the parties. "Yeah." Mom hugged me excitedly.

"Go clean up, after lunch we are signing you up for classes!" Mom walked off happy as ever saying she was going to tell dad.

I looked at Rai who wore a funny smile. "Guess I'm learning to dance too."

She stuck her tounge out at me. "Good. Because I just want to play. Teaching isn't as fun." Then she pushed me to the house, "Now go eat!"
