"Dude, you like Kara?"
The question threw me off guard. The water I was drinking came out and soon, I was coughing loudly as a blush of red crept into my cheeks.
"Well that answers my question." I heard Reimi say. She sighed a long sigh as I wiped the liquid off from my mouth.
"W-well..." -was that a stutter?- "I guess I do?"
Reimi sighed again. "I mean, you HAVE been spending some time with her, and considering her popularity and beauty, I'm not surprised." Then she pulled off the band that bound her hair rather dramatically as she cried out. "But the problem is, her friends are Lola and Terry for crying out loud! You know how much of a pain they can be!"
"You mean Lola only. Terry isn't that much of a jerk." I shrugged. "I mean, Lola was the one who humiliated you a year ago. Terry and Kara weren't involved."
"Oh Lukas my friend, you don't know what might be going on with the popular girls." Reimi said as she shot me an exasperated sort of look. "If Erik is here with us, I'm sure he'll agree."
"Suspecting people with no reasonable reason is no good Reimi." I argued.
Reimi shrugged and waved it off. "My opinions are facts Lukas!" She laughed.
"Suuuree." I rolled my eyes and grinned, then I continued eating my hotdog.
Reimi shrugged and followed.
Later, Kara came running towards us with gleaming eyes and sheets of paper in her hands. I had to fight the creeping smile threatening to appear and fortunately, I won.
"Hey Lukas." She greeted, panting heavily. Then she turned to Reimi and nodded. "Hey Reimi."
I glanced to my side. Reimi only smiled and nodded. But I wasn't stupid enough not to catch that sly ghost of a smile that passed through her face as she returned my gaze.
Kara, seemingly not noticing our silent interaction, quickly shoved some papers into my hand. She signaled me to read it, and I did.
Printed pictures of screenshots. All of them talked about the rumor of the stars in the southern mountains, the mountains that are said to house numerous mystics and wonders.
All who entered never came back the same. I mused as I flipped the pages one by one. Then came the last page, with a picture of a middle-aged woman with large-framed glasses and ginger hair, the name 'Morgan' scribbled right next to it.
I was about to ask before Kara spoke out herself. "That is Morgan, the source of the rumors. She said in Twitter once, 'Stars apparently exist in the southern mountains'. Most were cynical and just shrugged it off, but some dared to go."
"And what happened to the one who go?" I managed to ask.
"They came back different. That's the only info I managed to get about them. I don't know about their true fate though."
I shuddered a bit. "Way to make this mission more dangerous..."
Kara pouted and lightly punched my shoulder. "Gotta have to take risks, don't we?" She grinned. Then a call of her name rang out from behind her. "Well, see you later, Lukas and Reimi!"
She waved then ran again towards the source of the sound.
Sure that Kara was gone, Reimi walked over and rested her elbows onto my shoulder.
"That was extremely awkward for me." She muttered.
I chuckled. "I know that feeling."
"Now then, what do we have here?" She grabbed one of the papers and winced her eyes as she reads, probably trying to look detective-ly.
