What If?: A Jax & Tara Story

Chapter 17

As soon as Jax and Tara enter Collette's, they are thrust into all the chaos. Collette immediately rushes over to them. "Jax! Thank god you came! Everything is chaotic here! I need you to help me with some paperwork." Jax groans, "Really? Paperwork? You couldn't ask one of the girls to do it?" Collette shakes her head. "They know how to work with their body, but they are all clueless when it comes to this stuff." Jax looks at Tara who is wishing she was anywhere else right now. Jax smiles at her when she finally looks up at him. He turns back to Collette. "What about my mother? I'm sure she can help you out." Collette sighs in frustration. "I already asked. She's busy with some bitch named Wendy." She notices how tense Jax gets. She seductively runs her finger down his arm and says, "You look tense, Jax. Do you want me to help you release some of that tension?" Jax glares at her as Tara coughs beside them. Collette giggles, uncomfortably. "Oh. I didn't know you brought her." Jax grabs Tara's hand and starts walking away. Collette yells, "Jax! What am I suppose to do?!" Jax yells back, "Call my mother and Wendy. I'm sure they'd be glad to help! And from now on, don't call me! All your calls go through Opie or Chiba now! And they'll deliver your messages to me!" And with that Jax drags Tara out the door. Collette dials Gemma's number. "Hey, Gem. He didn't buy it. He's done. Call me back ASAP."

Jax and Tara make it back to their house. Tara calls Donna to see if her and Opie can pick up the boys for them and to see if they can spend the night too. Donna, of course, agreed. Jax orders takeout and then leaves to pick it up. When Jax returns they eat in silence, not knowing what to say. After they're done, Jax and Tara go into their room and change for bed. Jax climbs into the bed and waits for Tara to come into his arms. Tara touches Jax's face. "Jax? What are we going to do? It feels like everyone's against us." Jax looks down at her. "Babe, I will fix this. I promise. And not everyone's against us. They guys, they all love you." Tara sarcastically laughs. "Yeah, only because I patch them up when they get hurt." Jax asks, "Is that what you really think? Do you know how many of the guys wanted to kick my ass for hurting you? All of them. They love you Tara. Not more than me and Opie though." Tara smiles. "Yeah, Opie was the only one who didn't scare me during my plan. He actually made me feel safe." Jax nods his head and hold her hand to his chest. "Yeah, well he always thought of you as a little sister to him. He was always very protective over you. He actually did kick my ass for hurting you. Donna even got a few hits in." Tara laughs. "Really?" Jax grins. "Yeah." He then kisses her forehead. "Get some sleep, babe. I'll be right here."
