There is more fighting heard from JESSAMINE and the NURSE. Suddenly there is silence. About twenty seconds after the silence, the sound of metal falling. Both JESSAMINE and XANTHOS come onto the stage. He has a blank stare on his face as if he had been hypnotized. XANTHOS is limping, leaving JESSAMINE the one to support him. XANTHOS falls to his knees. JESSAMINE follows his lead but she is crying.

XANTHOS

I think I should have let her kill me. I know that’s all my mother wanted for me to finally be dead so she didn’t have to worry about me anymore. I should’ve let her do it! I am so stupid! Why didn’t you stop me!? Jess, why didn’t you stop me?!?! Damn it girl! Answer me!!

XANTHOS ferociously shakes JESSAMINE, who at the moment is very shocked and scared of XANTHOS. JESSAMINE struggles to break free from XANTHOS’ forcing grip. She finally breaks free when she scoots far away from him.

JESSAMINE

Because you would have done the same thing to me if I was the one holding the orbitoclasts to that lady’s stomach! You would’ve let me kill her! I know you would. And we both know that we want to get out of this damn place alive! And right now there is no point in arguing, fighting, or having self-pity because people right at this moment are probably looking for the two teenagers that stabbed that nurse in the stomach.

JESSAMINE stands up and begins to leave, she notices XANTHOS isn’t moving from his place and comes back to him.

JESSAMINE

What the hell is wrong with you we have to go? Do you want to go to Bedlam?

XANTHOS turns away from JESSAMINE. This makes her furious, so she runs to the other side and slaps XANTHOS in the face. By this time he should be getting up and is probably angry with JESSAMINE or is still quite until JESSAMINE speaks her other lines. Probably a monologue.

XANTHOS

I...I...I...

JESSAMINE crosses her arms in an angry stance.

JESSAMINE

What? What do you have to say for yourself huh?! That you’re a wimp like Lazarus? You are better than this? You know I actually thought you were the one. The one guy that I have actually fallen in love with. The one guy that would never hurt me or betray me. But right now. You’re just making me start to change my mind. I actually wanted to have a life with you because I thought that it would be nice having a dorky, smart, talented, and goofy guy like you around helping and being loving. But you’re just like every other guy that I have ever met and gone out with. Selfish, unaware of others feelings, and stupid enough that you would make a tantrum over something that has already been done. For Christ’s Sake you are eighteen years old. You shouldn’t be having these baby tantrums. This isn’t you Xanthos. Please come back to your normal self. They have completely brain-washed you to thinking you are crazy. But the only crazy you are is crazy for me as I am for you. Please Xanthos let’s go. I don’t want us to be separated again. I want to live and see the day my children are born and my grandchildren are born. Maybe even my great-grandchildren if God permits. So come on Xanthos. This is the last time I ask.

XANTHOS has been listening the whole time but doesn’t know what to do. JESSAMINE notices XANTHOS is not going to move from his place and begins to walk off again. XANTHOS turns his head and sees her leaving, leading him to jump up and runs to JESSAMINE and hugs her as well as planting a kiss on her forehead. JESSAMINE smiles and so does XANTHOS. They both turn towards the exit holding hands. They leave. Lights begin to go down. LAZARUS comes on the stage. His eyes are red, it can be noticed that he has been crying for a long time. LAZARUS moves center stage. This may be his only monologue.
