"DIDN'T I TELL YOU TO HAVE MY BREAKFAST READY BY 4 AM, YOU LAZY UNGRATEFUL BRAT?!" Her fathers voice echos through the house. She runs to the kitchen and makes him breakfast. "Just for that, you don't get any food today." He takes a bite of the food and spits it in Lilly's face. "WHAT IS THIS VULGAR CRAP THAT YOU SERVE TO ME!" He screams. "I-I-It's your favorite." she studders. She tries to hold onto her tears the best she can because she is afraid of what he will do to her, but one single tear escaped her eye. "STOP CRYING OR I WILL GIVE YOU SOMETHING TO CRY ABOUT!!!" he shouts. She immediately wipes the tear away and runs to her room to get dressed for school. She pauses in front of her mirror and slightly lifts her shirt to reveal her "helpless" scar. She stares at it as she remembers that horrible night over and over again. The pain she felt that night will never go away. It can never be erased from her mind. She will never forget what her father did and said that night. Her father forces her to walk the 12 miles to school every day. So she has to get up really early. It is not good for her to run that far without any food so she snuck a granola bar. She arrives at class early but finds someone already in her seat. "Are you new here? I haven't seen you around." she says to him with her hood covering her face. "Yeah, but my family has lived here for a long time." he says. "My name is Lilly. What's yours?" "Cade"
"Nice to meet you Cade." Lilly says as she pulls off her hood.
He looks surprised by seeing Lilly's face but quickly shakes it off. "Where did you get this?" he says while touching a bruise on the side of her jaw. She stumbles for words while trying to figure out a reason for the bruise without telling him that her father did it. "I..uh ...I slipped and hit it on my kitchen counter." She blurts out. "Lilly." Cade says "Do you think I am stupid." "No but you are the only one that cares about me even though we just met." she whispers under her breath. "What do you mean I am the only one that cares?" Cade says. "I didn't say that! I have no idea what you are talking about!" Lilly says like she sounds scared. "Hey, calm down Lilly. Why are you so scared?" "I'm not" she says. 'Because if i tell someone he will hurt me more' she thinks to herself 'i deserve this. My mother is dead because of me. I deserve this' she keeps repeating to herself.
