"bev?"

a small voice spoke up from behind the girl in her math class. she turned around to face eddie, one of her close friends.

"what's up?" she rested an elbow on his desk.

"can i speak to you after class? there's something i've wanted to talk to you about for a while now." he kept his voice low, eyes darting from side to side to make sure nobody could hear what they were talking about.

"oh, okay." she replied, silent for a moment. she then cocked her eyebrow. "is it about richie?" she was one of the few people who knew about his feelings for their loud friend, and she did a good job and keeping it a secret.

"what? no!" he sighed, sliding his hand down his face. "well... yeah. kinda."

bev smirked. "it's fine. you can talk to me-"

"miss marsh! what do you think you're doing?"

her body immediately whipped back around to the front of the classroom and she tucked a loose strand of flame-colored hair behind her ear. "sorry, sir. eddie just needed a little help on the problem he's doing." her voice wavered slightly at the volume of the teacher's voice.

"mm. okay." he murmured, his focus returning to whatever he was reading under his desk. she scribbled something in her book, tore the corner of the page off, turned around again quickly and placed it beside eddie's hand before resuming her previous position.

eddie picked up the note and read it.

meet in library after school! :-)

he scrunched up the piece of paper in his hand, slipping it into the pocket of his shorts.

"sorry i'm a bit late, my teacher wanted to talk to me!" bev slid into the seat opposite eddie at their table in the library. she took off her backpack and placed her elbows on the polished table. "soo... how's it going?"

"it's okay. he still doesn't know about how i feel." he sighed, looking down at his lap.

"hey, don't be upset! i'm 90% sure richie is about as straight as a rainbow, so i wouldn't bother wasting time being sad over it." she smiled.

what eddie didn't know was that richie tozier was in love with how soft the small boy was. he trusted beverly with his secrets more than the boys he was friends with. for some reason, she seemed more understanding to him than the others did. (he was kinda intimidated by stan, but he'd never admit it.)

"what was it you wanted to talk about anyway?"

"well... you see..." eddie trailed off. he took a breath, opened his mouth, then closed it. "i, well... i'm a boy..."

"...yeah?" bev said slowly, tilting her head.

"and... you're a girl..."

"...yeeaah?" she said again.

"...who does... girl things-"

"eddie, what are you talking about?" she moaned, throwing her head back.

"oh, shit, i'm sorry! i didn't mean it like that!" eddie suddenly realised his mistake and regretted what he had begun to say. "shit, i meant that like, you like, wear make up and paint your nails and stuff!" he put his head down on the table, embarrassed at himself.
