YOU CAN LOVE TWO PEOPLE AT THE SAME TIME, but never in the same way.
Annika, she's great. She truly deserves the best. But Summer, she's special, she's different, she's a once in a lifetime type of girl, and I know that. Though there's that little seed of doubt, as I wait for Annika to return home. The longer she's gone, the more I think about breaking up with her.
I was sitting on the couch, biting my tongue as I planned out what I was going to say to Annika. "It's not you, it's me." Yeah, no.
As the door swung open and slammed shut, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. Leaning forward in my seat, I held my breath as I awaited her arrival. However, it never came.
William stepped in, a plastic bag filled with leftovers from his lunch in his hand. He dumped the bag along with his keys on the kitchen counter, and walked towards me, talking his hat off to run his fingers through his hair in the process.
"So," he plopped down on the couch, eyeing me with concern. "How'd she take it?"
I shook my head glumly, " I wouldn't know. She hasn't come home yet." Willy only replied with a sigh as he adjusted his glasses he was wearing. I stuck my nose up in the air a little bit, curious. "Where'd you come from?"
William seemed surprised by the question, caught off guard he stuttered. "Oh- uh, you know..."
I furrowed my brows, "no, I don't."
William sighed again, leaning forward propping his arms on his knees. Rubbing his hands together, he closed his eyes for a moment, not wanting to talk. " I, well- I was out... with Summer."
I exploded from the couch as her name rolled off his tongue. " I can't believe you! You said you'd help me get her back, but here you are off with her! I- I can't believe you! You son of a bitch!"
Willy through his arms up in defence, leaning back into the couch. "Hey, no its not like that-"
"Oh to hell it isn't! I-"
Thats when William snapped, again. Jumping up, he faced his best friend, ready to set him in his place. "No! Okay we've been good friends ever since I met her. Just because you fucked up, doesn't mean I have to stop seeing her. I love her, but not like you do. But unlike you, I noticed how special she was months ago, well you just saw her as a burden until you left her."
My face softened, he was right. He's always right. My shoulders slumped, and I sat back down on the couch. "Fuck," I ran my hands through my hair. "This is just chaos. Maybe, maybe this is for the best. Maybe I should just stay with Annika."
William relaxed too, plopping back down onto the couch. "Hey, no. You are going to break up with Annika, because thats whats best. You don't love her like you do Summer. And yes, this is just a big ball of chaos; but this is Summer we're talking about.
And she's worth whatever chaos she brings to the table, and you know it."
