Zaylee was wrapped up in Jeremy’s arms, tears streaming down her perfect porcelain like skin. She clung to him as if her life depended on it. It was in that moment that I completely lost myself altogether.

“Jeremy. Get your hands off of my girl NOW!” I barked out. Both of them jumped apart. I could see the fear in her eyes as she watched Jeremy scramble out of her office.

“What were you doing Zaylee? I’m your boyfriend NOT HIM! Why are you clinging to him as if your life would fall apart without him, but you can’t even come see me face to face?!”

She stared at me, fear evident in her eyes. “Braydon baby.. It’s really not what you think it was.. I just got back from..”

I cut her off before she could continue. Too furious to listen to any excuse that she might make up to make up for what she was doing. Is this how she planned to get me back for what happened with Jenny? This is probably why she was so fine with what happened.

“This is why you forgave me so quickly isn’t it Zaylee? You’ve been having a relationship and who knows what else with Jeremy, so why would it bother you that Jenny kissed me right?!”

“Wha- no of course not Braydon!”

“Keep quiet Zaylee. You know what. I’m done with you. I’m done with this so-called relationship. You can keep your stupid ring for someone you actually love. You are just like Angelique. You don’t love me. You love my money. We are over.!”

I watched her as the tears started streaming down her face. She looked like she wanted to say something but then she slowly bent and picked up the ring I threw to the other side of the room. It broke me to see  the hurt in her eyes, but I had to protect myself. I couldn’t get engaged again only to have my heart ripped out once more.

She gathered all her things from her desk that belonged to her and put it in her hand bag. Then she slowly walked over to me and whispered torturing softly.

, “I understand Braydon you won’t have to see me again, I quit. You deserve better than me. You will always be the only man I ever loved. Please promise me one thing before I leave though..”

“What?” I expected it to come out much harsher, but instead it came out as a broken whisper. My heart was breaking and this time I knew there was nothing I would be able to do to fix it again.

“Please don’t stop going to church and loving God. I caused you heartache, not God. Please don’t blame Him.”

“I promise.” I then watched as she walked around me, disappearing from my life. Of everything she could have asked me, she asked me that. Did I just make a mistake?

Four days later I saw Zaylee in front of her apartment. She had her back turned towards the road so she didn’t see me. I noticed that she had all her things packed and that she was moving, but where was everything else? That’s not all I bought her. I saw her take a white envelope from her hand bag, placing a kiss on it and putting it in her post box. She then got in the car with Jeremy and the girl I saw in her office and then she left.

I waited a while before getting out of my car to see what was in envelope. I picked it up and inspected the red kiss on the white. Suddenly I wished it was my lips that she kissed instead of the stupid envelope, but it was too late now. I opened the envelope and saw the apartment key falling out of it. I picked it up and entered the apartment. Everything I bought her was still there in their spot.

I sat down on the couch and pulled out the letter from the envelope and started reading it.

Dear Braydon.

I’m not sure if you are ever going to actually find this letter, but I figured that you might want to come for your stuff you know, so yeah I left the key and everything for you so you can do with your stuff whatever you want.

I never thought that we’d fall apart like this. I really do love you Braydon. More than you would ever understand. When I first met you, I was so scared that you’d be just another guy that would want to use my body for your pleasure. But your beautiful blue eyes drew me in, and before I knew it, I was foolishly falling in love with you. I was really scared of falling for you Braydon. You deserve so much better than me.

I’m so sorry that I reminded you of Angelique in a negative way. I know that she really hurt you badly. It will forever haunt me that I caused you the same amount of pain.

Bray.. I meant it when I said forever. I meant it when I said that I want to get married to you one day. You never gave me a chance to explain what was happening in the office, but I guess that will never matter anyway.

Please hold on to your promise to me Braydon even if it’s the last thing you do for me. You can keep the ring. I got it for you, do what you want with it, just know that I meant every word I ever said to you.

P.S. I still love you & I always will. Forever remember.

Yours Always,

Zaylee Xx

By the time I finish reading her letter, I notice that I had tears running down my face.  I opened the envelope again and there I found the ring that I so carelessly threw across her office. Sliding the ring on my finger I vow to her silently that I will never love anyone again. I clutch the letter close to my body and fall asleep on her couch that evening, dreaming of a better ending for the two of us.
