Chapter 2
I got up and stumbled across the room towards the window and threw it open.Ah! that warm summer breeze gushed into the room and filled it with freshness.Though I'm blind I knew that the minute I opened the window, the room was filled with brightness. The breeze made me long to go out. What a wonderful day to go out I thought.
The next minute, I found myself getting ready I pulled out my favorite dress I knew it was my favorite from the feel of it, its silky feeling made me want to get inside it immediately. This one as always had floral patterns on it.Paula always told me that I loved floral patterns.
After getting dressed, I grabbed my sunglasses and smoothened my dress and open the door. Sunglasses? You may ask why I need them. I need them not to protect my eyes but to hide them from people.I don't like it when people see me blind and act all sympathetic towards me. They think I'm a weakling but no I'm not I know that because its me we are talking about. I judge myself better than anyone else judging me.This attitude of mine is most hated by Paula, she says that I may not always be right and I need to listen to others but I don't agree with her.
Anyway, I was so excited that I ran down the stairs. The reason for me to run down the stairs is because I'm most confident in Paula's house for I have grown up here.I know Paula's house inside out ,its like a blue print in my head.At first I did fall often and get bruised up a lot but now I've figured out the house quite well.I just entered the kitchen where I felt Paula's presence.I didnt stop to greet her but just rushed to the back door.
"Lia where you heading in such a hurry, darlin?" Paula asked as I opened the back door that led to the beach. Her voice was firm but had an uneasiness to it.For a lady of seventy three, Paula had a very firm voice but at the moment her voice was shaky.
"To the beach Paula to get some fresh air! Why?Why do you ask?Are you not well?"
"Oh!no I'm fine."
She tried to sound pleasant but there was something she was clinging on to.There was silence in the kitchen for few minutes, the only sound that could be heard was the whistling kettle on the stove.
"So, Paula can I leave?"
" Sure you can Lia"she replied, but she was still not sure of it.
I gulped down a glass of milk.I was just about to go, when Paula grabbed my arm and told me to come back soon with a voice that made it a command.
