Silver paced restlessly around camp, her tail twitching. "That's a tree-brained idea," she snapped at the black cat sitting near her.
"I was just saying!" he exclaimed, trying to protect his innocence. "Keep your fur on!" The she-cat paced around more while the other cat just narrowed his eyes as he stared into the forest. He jumped to his paws as a muscular white tom pushed through.
"Blizzardwing, you're just in time," Silver greeted the tom. He bowed his head and replied,
"I couldn't be late."
"What was the delay?" the black tom demanded.
"Berry had fallen into a bramble bush during training this Sunrise, I had to help her get all the brambles out and coat the wound. Don't sound is defensive, Nightshine." Blizzardwing spat his brother's name like it was poison.
"Settle down," Silver hissed, baring her sharp teeth. Her eyes narrowed and glinted menacingly in the setting sun. "We didn't come here to argue."
"Well then what did we come for?" Nightshine cried, exasperated. "All the time you make us come here, but for what reason?!"
"I'm dying. As you may or may not know, I am on my last life."
"How do you know you're dying?" Blizzardwing had stopped staring down Nightshine and focused his full attention on his mother.
"I can feel it. I can feel myself becoming weaker every sunrise. And every passing heartbeat I'm losing my mental and physical strength. They are calling me to their aid." The two brothers exchanged glances as the silver she-cat continued on.
"Mother, what in StarClan's name are you talking about?" Nightshine asked her.
"StarClan, StarClan, StarClan," Silver tutted, shaking her head. Her ears laid back as she spat, "how dare you? I see your Clan roots are showing. We worship the Tribe of Stars more than StarClan. After all, that's where my non-Clan family have gone." Blizzardwing shook his head sadly and sighed,
"We best be getting back." He turned but just as the she-cat relaxed, he spun around and launched himself at her, claws out. He used all his might as he raked them down her face and back, but she repelled. Silver bucked as hard as could and the muscular tom flew off her back and into a tree. He hit his head pretty hard, a trail of blood started dripping down his face, staining his fur a rich crimson colour.
"How could you?" Nightshine hissed. "He's your own son!"
"No son of mine could act like that, I assure you. Must be adopted." She flicked Blizzardwing with her tail as she passed.
"You poor excuse of a mother!" he yowled. His anger had overflowed, he had been pushed past breaking point. Muscles rippling, Nightshine launched himself and clung to her, his claws tearing out tufts of her soft silver fur. She yowled and thrashed about, her paws spinning out wildly. The night pelted tom growled and bared his teeth as Silver reared up.
"Give up." Her intelligent green eyes were narrowed in concentration as she dodged his swift blows. He, however, had more practice in fighting and slammed her into a tree before holding her by the scruff and forcing her into the river and underwater. Nightshine held her there for a while, until she started coughing and gasping. He tried to haul her up, but with the added weight of her heavy coat, couldn't. His hind legs slipped in the mud and he went tumbling in face first and bobbing down the stream, just like fish.
"No, please, no," the wet tom mumbled as he pulled himself out. He was numb from shock, however he still tried to save Silver. But she was too far upstream. She was dragged under by the force of the water. The last thing Nightshine heard was,
"Help!" How was he going to face the group after this?...
