the losers club stood outside the gate of neibolt house, staring up at the terrifying old building.
"this is where i saw the leper." eddie shivered, looking at the house in disgust. (y/n) stared at the house, petrified. there was just something about it, maybe it was the way it looked or the weird sounds that came from it even the silly stories the children told about it, but there was something about that house that made it seem almost alive.
"looks like a crack house to me." richie shrugged, cutting through the silence.
he's not wrong about that.
after the night that richie had spent at (y/n)'s place, the two had been almost inseparable, with him going home only to get clothes and remind his mum that he was still alive. (y/n) wasn't complaining about how much time they spent together at all, having another person in the house made her feel safe and protected, and knowing that richie was right next to her at night made her feel practically invincible.
but there was still the issue of the so-called killer clown.
pennywise hadn't appeared to (y/n) at all since the last incident, but the others were constantly having encounters with him and she couldn't help but feel like something terrible was about to happen.
this did nothing to help the nightmares that were plaguing her sleep of course. she could still remember the way her mother looked at her in the kitchen that day and the way the body had fell to the floor.
richie didn't know about the nightmares. or he did and he just thought that it would be better to let her tell him about them herself. either way it wasn't easy keeping it from him, especially when she woke up drenched in sweat each night, hoping that he would just hold her a bit tighter and tell her that everything would be okay.
"l-let's g-g-go i-in." bill said determinedly, dropping silver to the road and marching to the gate. "who's coming?"
everyone stared at him.
is he fucking with us or-
"d-d-don't b-be a b-b-bunch o-o-f p-pussies. t-this h-house h-has to be c-connected to i-it s-s-somehow." he cried frustratedly.
no he's not fucking with us.
"ok fine i'm in. i need to find my parents." (y/n) said quickly, head held high. everyone looked at her.
"(y/n) are you insane? this place is literally the definition of 'haunted house' and you just want to waltz in there and find some killer clown?" richie asked in disbelief, throwing his hands up into the air.
what if they're in there.
"we don't know if it's in there, i just need to have my parents back richie." her voice cracked at the end. she blinked and looked down, moving forcefully to the gate. "i'll bet there's nothing even in here." she opened the gate stepping inside and slamming it shut. "oi, pennybitch, i'm here." she shouted, stomping toward the door.
"(y/n) don't open the door!" richie shouted, the others looking on fearfully, eyes wide and hearts racing.
she didn't need to.
the door swung open itself, revealing two figures.
(y/n) stood very still, breathing shallowly.
"m-mum? d-dad?" she whispered, voice threatening to crack and tears starting to blur her vision.
"sweetie, you're home!" her father said, placing his arm around his wife's shoulder and grinning. "just in time for dinner."
this isn't real.
every instinct she had was screaming at her to run, run right back into the safety of her friends, run straight into richie's arms.
but she couldn't move.
all she had ever wanted for the past year, the one thing keeping her from being completely happy, was right in front of her.
family.
"whatever you see (y/n), it's not real. it's just messing with you!" richie yelled from the gate.
"come on (y/n), get back here!" eddie screamed, pulling his inhaler out of his fanny pack and fumbling with it.
the others started yelling for her too, but it was almost as if she was underwater, the voices dull.
"come back, please (y/n), i love you." a voice said from the gate. this shocked her right out of her stupor and she spun around, only to see a broken looking richie standing there. he looked utterly defeated and as if we were about to cry.
whoa.
"come on darling." her mum said, reaching out for her.
"no." (y./n) said loudly. "enough. you left me all alone and scared." she moved back down the path, taking her time to get to a hopeful yet anxious looking richie. her friends moved closer to the gate, ready to give her a hug, faces relieved.
then, in slow motion, she saw the panic set into their eyes, richie pull the gate open and reach for her hand, screaming.
she turned around and saw the figures of her parents blurring into one.
she stood still as limbs popped out, larger than human size and wearing familiar classic lacy cuffs.
finally, the head cracked out of the neck. a sickly pale forehead and a shock of orange hair. but it was the eyes that sent chills down her spine.
yellow and piercing they were, and (y/n) felt herself being sucked back into the memory of pennywise shape-shifting into her mother.
time seemed to slow yet again and she pictured her mother's body dropping to the floor. the yellow eyes staring at her with a sinister glow. the hand outstretched toward her. pedalling away from the house only to see the same clown with a red balloon.
she felt richie take her hand and pull her urgently through the gate.
"what the fuck!" richie yelled as they ran down the street, away from the house. she looked behind her. nothing.
"guys. it's fine he's not there. we can stop." (y/n) panted. everyone slowed to a halt.
"everyone ok?" bev asked. they all nodded, catching their breath.
then (y/n) remembered what richie had said.
she pulled him into a tight embrace, feeling him still then slowly wrap his arms around her waist.
standing on her tippy toes, she leant forward to his ear.
"i love you too." she whispered, heart thudding in her chest.
richie pulled her even closer to him and buried his face in her face, she could feel his smile on her skin.
so they stood there, in the middle of the street, holding onto eachother as if the moment was their last, while the losers club shot eachother sly looks and caught their breath.
