Chapter Two
Four Months Later;
Mae looked all around herself scoping out her surroundings only to once again spot the shadowy figure nearing the thicket of trees. 'Who are you?' She wanted to ask, but knew she couldn't. There is something very eerie about the shadow form, something almost dangerous about him but she couldn't put her finger on what exactly. It was indeed a mystery to her. One she badly wanted to unlock secrets to and then again, wanted to get as far away from as possible.
Another mystery that she wanted answered was why did he only come out in the time where the sun was hidden by the horizon? But the better question to ask was; why did she continue to go outside when she saw him? It was as if she had no control over herself anymore, like she has a death wish.
This person could very well be a murderer for all she knew. But no matter what, it never failed. Every single evening Mae would look out her window scope her surroundings until she found what she was looking for her Mystery man.
Today was different than the others however. Today instead of it being sunny and warm, it was a cool breezy dark evening. Rainclouds covering the sky in a never ending blanket of gray gloom. Today was also different because he wasn't as deep in the thicket as before, he had moved closer in, clearly now showing off his very large build, though Mae was still unable to see his facial features, and that the most was making her not in her right mind.
So that could also be why another reason today is unusual. Mae seemed to be lost in fear and mystery. So is that a good enough reason for her to be so close to someone who sends shivers down her spine at just the thought of him?
She was merely only a few strides away. If he wanted he could easily charge toward her, take her away and no one would have ever known. But they both just stood there facing each other, his face hidden in darkness.
Before Mae knew it, she realized she had asked him what he wanted and his next move took her by surprise. He was standing right in front of her, his body lightly brushing against hers. He was massive. Tall and very muscular, she still couldn't see his face; however she saw he has astounding turquoise eyes that were so intense on her face, she thought he must be looking into her soul. He bent his head down toward hers and whispered in her ear, "Soon," and disappeared.
Shocked Mae bolts upright, now wide awake; she looks all around her to make sure she's still in her bed and instantly relaxes and grasps it was all a dream. The very same dream she has been having for almost five years now, Mae thought annoyed. Mae had goose bumps all over her, the feeling his voice sent through her felt like an electric shock. She was terrified and also thrilled. This dream seemed to return to her every night; this time was however unlike the others, this time the mystery man talked, and when he talked she thought she had caught fire.
His voice had been so profound, and very commanding. His body screamed power and Mae knew he surely has it, and his eyes... Those astounding piercing turquoise blue eyes, it was as if he could see everything Mae had ever been through when he looked down at her.
Who was this man of her dreams?
Unable to fall back asleep Mae decided she would get a head start on her chores for today, though she knew that once Miss Burt found out it wouldn't matter how neatly it was done. That largely out of proportion woman hated Mae's every fiber for no apparent reason other than that she could. Mae supposed it could be for that fact that she did not bow down to the woman's every wish- or most would call orders.
No, Miss Burt seemed to hate everyone except that horrid creature named Ellen, the never ending bossy blonde that was nothing but a suck-up. Mae and some other girls' could swear the blonde headed girl with a way too elevated shrivel of a voice thought herself of a princess. Mae remembered how they would joke about if she was really a princess that her parents certainly couldn't handle such an annoying tone ruling around them, therefore made her the princess of Pembroke's Orphanage.
