Chapter 9
(Unknown POV)
The sun was directly overhead as I paced in front of the tunnel entrance to my living quarters. He was late. Again. What was wrong with that pathetic shifter? Couldn't he understand that to be late was to disobey? He would be severely punished one again. I'll rip his fur from his mange-ridden hide and use it to decorate my quarters! The scrap will be sorry for disobeying his superior again!
A small figure came running into the clearing and skidded to a halt in front of me. I glowered down at the small black bear looking up at me. "You've disobeyed again, Fang. Keep this up, and I might just have to... replace you," I growled at him and he cowered. "I-I'm sorry, Master! B-but I have a good reason this time..." I cut off the dimwit. "Enough! I don't want to hear your pathetic excuses! We have matters to attend to!" I turned and walked briskly down the tunnel until it widened into the familiar surroundings. "M-master! Wait! You must hear this!" I turned abruptly and growled at him. " WHAT?! What could possibly be so important, coming from your mouth?!"
"I-it's Ray... he was attacked and captured by the Pack. They came for their pack-mate and ambushed Ray and the hostage. I-I saw them with my own eyes..." the runt paused and looked at me expectantly. My eyes narrowed. "Tell me everything you saw. If you forget to tell me one thing, and I find out... Well, I won't spoil the surprise for you."
"A couple of days ago when I was on my way to meet you, I came across Ray and the Pack female. I was shocked that they were so far from camp, that I called out to him. He came over to me and told me to leave and pretend that I hadn't seen them, so I complied and left. Then today I decided to take the same route and came up to the clearing just in time to witness Alpha Night and several members from her pack attack Ray and take both him and their female with them. That's all I know," he said. I could tell from the look in his eyes that he was telling the truth. My brother had been kidnapped? This is your chance to rise. I shoved past the runt, heading back out into the sunlight.
"Our previously arranged plans are going to be happening a little ahead of schedule, with a few modifications, of course. We must head to the hollow so I can summon the shifters to a meeting," I ordered him, and headed full-sprint towards the center of our camp.
"Wilds! Gather here before me!" The powerful sound of my command echoed through the woods. Shifters appeared everywhere and swarmed into the hollow. Curious eyes looked up at me, most likely wondering why their precious Alpha wasn't the one calling to them. I noticed several glares as well; there were many shifters who did not trust me. I ignored it, knowing that there was nothing they could do to me since I was the brother of the Alpha. I looked out confidently at all of the Wilds gathered in the large hollow from where I sat on a small raised part of the ground. "You're probably wondering why I have called you here, and the answer is simply because my brother could not," I began. "You may or may not have noticed that Alpha Ray has been gone for quite some time. The Omega Pack have come into our territory seeking revenge, and have attacked and kidnapped our Alpha! We must not stand for this! Together we must return to Pack territory and demand our Alpha back, or else attack them! Will you fight beside me?" My volume increased as I got further into my speech, and I jumped to my feet. Most of the shifters in front of me jumped up as well, cheering. All except the few who distrusted me. I made a mental note of them.
"We must leave now! To Pack territory!" I boomed, and ran off with the Wilds at my side.
I glared up at Alpha Night while she inspected us from the edge of the cave. I had sent the demand to her, and she had yet to respond. I sat in front of all of my followers, with the Beta, Ripple, at my side. I was surprised he had come, since he despised me. But I suppose his loyalty to my brother overruled his hatred for me.
The Pack Alpha stared directly at me as she began to speak. "Your pack-mate is our prisoner, guilty of stealing the heir to the Omega Pack. He shall be rightfully punished. Movement on your part opposing this decision will be seen as an act of war!" Growls erupted from behind me, and I stood as I prepared to address her. "Alpha Night, we will not allow you to keep our Alpha in your custody. If it's a war you want, it's a war you'll get! Wilds: attack!" With my words, the Wilds rushed up the mountainside towards the cave, some flying, others running. I stayed where I was, waiting for Fang. He ran up beside me, waiting for orders.
"You're about to witness an event that will be passed on through stories for cycles upon cycles. Stories of the rise of Alpha Storm, and the defeat of the Omega Pack. Count yourself lucky to be my servant." I said to him as I smirked up at the battle unfolding ahead of me. "Now go and fight. If you survive, I might promote you." He nodded. "I will come back, Alpha Storm!" With that, he ran off, and I shifted into a mountain lion and headed for the cave.
