Drop of fear

Harsh light shone down on the sleek, monochrome apartment and the marble kitchen tops glistened with the street lights through the wall high windows. Everything was either white, black or matte grey – it all blended together in the simplest of minimal designs. The apartment lived up to the pretty penny it cost, but the woman inside certainly cost a lot more. The tapping sound of heels echoed around the apartment, her shoes carrying her along the polished floor. Her jewelled hand glided over the transparent desk and pulled out a chair, seating herself slowly as she cleared her throat. A tall glass was stationed in front of her, containing a deep crimson liquid that matched her soft lips. They were the only ones with colour in this minimalist heaven. The silence was snapped as her phone alerted her, making the frail looking woman jump only slightly. She grabbed her phone, almost snatching it from the desk, and answered the call, composing herself to sound important and intimidating.

"Rachel Duncan." She snapped, holding the phone over her neatly pressed hair. As the voice murmured into her ear, her face slowly dropped and she sat up, leaning against the table. She let out an exasperated sigh and ran her hands through her hair.

"I can see why Delphine is concerned," Rachel replied, "if clones are being abducted then the people involved in the operation are well informed... and have the same list I gave to you. In that respect it may be best for Delphine and Cosima to keep moving - off the books, of course."

"Rachel," Felix said sharply. "They don't have the resources or the connections to do that - they need to get back home so we can sort all this out."

Rachel flinched at the word home and sighed, getting up from her chair and returning to the desk with a laptop. As he continued speaking, she began surfing the web. "What I'm trying to say is we need your resources and connections to get them back here. Can you find a safe house or something that Cosima and the others can stay in?"

"You don't find a safe house Felix, that defeats the object of having one" She snapped, looking out into the darkness of the night. "I don't have connections anymore, you know that. But, I do have the money. I've been doing some work on the side which has created a sizable nest egg, so I suppose I can pull some strings."

"Is that you offering a safe house for the sisters?" Felix questioned, lowering his voice and smirking slightly.

"Yes... if you accept." She paused, her brain acknowledging the somewhat snarky tone Felix used. "I may be ostracised from the family, but that doesn't mean I won't help in their time of need." She said quietly, a softness slipping through her formality.

"Thank you, Rachel." He waited, taking a deep breath after the genuine tone he just used. "The kids are doing okay, Kira said something about you when she was making a friendship bracelet the other day." He trailed off a silence lingering between them "Your people will go and get Cosima and Delphine, right?"

"I will send Delphine the information on it IF, and only if, I can retrieve any. And I'll look into the abductions. I still have access to the Neolution files," She stopped, knowing that she was going on too much. She cut herself short and finished abruptly. "I will notify you when it's done."

"Okay, so." Cosima started, taking the joint from her mouth and joining Delphine on the floor amidst the stacks of paper. "You've stayed up all night trying to figure things out, when Felix said he was on it. Don't you think maybe it's time to get ready now?" She laughs, placing her hands on Delphine's shoulders and rocking her slightly. Delphine rolled her eyes and leaned back into Cosima's chest, looking up at that playful smile she fell in love with. They both stared at each other for a little while before Cosima pushed Delphine off of her in a light-hearted manner, throwing a pencil at her.
