Jumoke

"I hate Mondays," I grumbled, getting up from my bed sleepily after that stupid alarm clock rang. Seriously, I regret asking for an alarm clock, it's the stupidest thing I own.

I hate Mondays so much, I mean..who doesn't? I had already spent four Mondays in my new school and believe me, it was horrible. Not that the students were mean, the school workload was unbelievably bulky

On Monday mornings, the school was usually very dirty. I mean, you would expect that after playing on Friday and dumping all the biscuits and sweet wrappers on the floor. The boarders usually did their portion of the work earlier than the day students.

I usually wondered why a renowned didn't just get more cleaners to the job. Apparently, they wanted us to "learn how to clean up after yourselves." Fair point, if I'm being honest.

After the boring cleaning, we had two stupid periods for the subject with a boring teacher; Data Processing.

I wondered why I chose that trade subject. I should have gone for Catering Crafts instead. At least, you can be eating chin chin and cake during practicals than staying glued to a stupid computer.

Today, Dad wasn't driving us to school, we had to trek! It wasn't entirely bad, if I'm being honest, it's a walkable distance. What makes it horrible is trekking with my walking Iroko brother who barely cared if you're still walking beside or behind him. He takes long strides and doesn't look back. You have to run to catch up with him. I can exchange that boy for a bag of pure water!

I brushed my teeth, took my bath and ate my breakfast in haste. First time in history. I would usually take my time but today isn't that day.

"Mummy, we're leaving." I announced.

My mum came down the stairs with a purse in her hand. She brought five hundred naira and gave it to Tunde.

"Ehn!! Mummy, don't give Tunde my money, he won't give me the complete money." I protested.

Tunde gave me a murderous look.

"Tunde, so you've been cheating her?" My mum asked, squinting her eyes in anger.

Tunde had suddenly lost the ability to form words.

"Am I not talking to somebody?" Mum asked.

"I wasn't cheating her, I was helping her to save it." He answered foolishly, couldn't even save himself from getting a earful.

"Since when did you become a human bank?" Mum asked, standing akimbo. "OK, how much has she saved so far?"

"Em....." Tunde stuttered.

"Answer me before I give you an earthquaking slap." Mum threatened.

"I didn't count it."

"No problem, today I will give her your own money."

"Ah ahn, mummy, please." He begged.

"That's what you get for being a yahoo boy. Jummy, take your money."  She gave me the money and I actually pitied him but it didn't last long.
At long last, the day of reckoning. Let him suffer for today.

*****

Athough I wasn't late for the morning assembly, I arrived later than usual. Remember that girl that was rude to me on the first day of school? Her name was Elizabeth, and since then we became sworn enemies. Nobody liked her in the class anyway. She was so full of herself.

I bumped into her while going into my class.

"Are you stupid?" She yelled.

I walked past her, going straight to my seat. Not today, Satan!
