~PERCY~

Percy peered out of his bedroom window, although there wasn't much to see, just rain droplets and fog. The perfect weather for a road trip in his opinion, it was one of those days when it was raining but wasn't cold.

"Have you packed your bag yet?" Percy's Mother, Sally, interrupted him from his train of thought. Almost tripping over in the process, Percy flung back towards his half-packed bag and began throwing random items he thought he might need into it.

"Almost!"

Everything was a tight squeeze, and he was almost one hundred percent sure he didn't need half the items he was taking, but Percy managed to zip the bag closed and drop it at the front door, next to his Mum's.

"You exited?" Sally asked, then laughed as Percy nodded furiously.

"We only go camping once a year Mum," Percy replied in a fake annoyed tone , flicking his hair back in the process, "of course I'm exited."

Sally only nodded and ran out into the pouring rain holding her duffel bag tightly. Before returning back to the front door and wrapping Percy into a tight and out of the blue bear hug.

"Mum." Percy choked, "We should get going."

"Right right, ok."

Percy didn't mind the rain, in fact, he rather enjoyed it, something about the water fascinated him in a way he couldn't describe. He flicked his hair back for the second time that day as his mother entered the car, soaking wet and giggling hysterically

"Oh gosh it's bucketing down." She laughed, Percy laughed along with her.

"Lets go!" He then shouted, pointing towards the road as his Mum backed out of the driveway.

Doing this became a sort of tradition, driving into the middle of nowhere, staying in a run down cabin, swimming in he lake and falling asleep next to the campfire. It only seemed natural.

~

One hour soon became two, and two became three and that ticked by and became four. It wasn't long before they began to see the lake below them, only a few more minutes and they would be there.

It all seemed to good to be true, as previous years had shown Sally was reluctant to go back to Long Island, always making up excuses for them not to go. Ever since Percy's father had left them she had just not wanted to go back.

Maybe sometimes things are really just too good to be true.

The Ute was only ten feet away when Percy realised the driver was in the wrong lane. He screamed for his Mum to pull over but it was two late. The Ute smashed head on to their truck. Sending Percy head first into the window beside him.

Percy heard screaming, he heard the screeching of tires and the sound of shattering glass. He felt the truck rolling downhill, he felt glass sticking into his skin and he felt like he was being tossed around like a rag doll. And there was nothing he could do to stop it.

He couldn't think, it was getting to the point where he couldn't feel. Everything was happening to fast, there was no time to figure things out.

When the truck finally stopped on its side Percy hastily unbuckled his seat belt and scrambled out from one side of the truck. Extremely dizzy and confused as to where he was. He had to place one hand back onto the truck for balance, and wait for everything to clear.

Looking around the first thing he noticed was they had landed in a forest, the second thing he realised was that they were so far downhill that Percy wasn't sure if they could or would ever be found here.

The third thing he realised was that his Mum was still buried somewhere inside the truck.

Adrenaline pumped through his veins like fire as he threw chunks of smashed and broken car parts away, his only thoughts were of his mum.

She lay unconscious in her seat, a massive gash across her forehead, most likely from glass.  Percy was sure he would never be able to fix that wound, but he held back tears as he fought to reach her.

After many attempts, Percy finally got his Mum out of the car, she looked deathly pale and the cut on her forehead had created so much blood that was now oozing down the side of her face and onto her chest.

Percy grabbed Sally's phone from her pocket and dialled 111.

"Hello, whats your emergency?" The person on the other end of the line spoke calmly. Unaware of the trauma that was currently happening, oblivious to the lives that were at stake.

"Ambulance." Percy said, his voice shaky.

"Ok, right with you."

There was a loud BLEEP and another person, a man this time, answered the phone.

"Hello, what's your name?" He asked

"Percy, Percy Jackson."

"Where are you?" The man asked, Percy was about to answer when the phone went dead.

"Hello?" Percy frowned, he shouted into the microphone, pushed down on the power button multiple times but it was no use, the screen was black.

He screamed in frustration then lay down beside his Mum. Wrapping his arms around her. She was so cold, and pale and bloody that Percy couldn't help but think negative thoughts.

She's going to die. She's going to die. She's going to die.

Those four word's kept repeating themselves in Percy's mind.

She's going to die. She's going to die. She's going to die.

He buried his head in his Mother's chest, breathing in the smell of his Mum for the last time, but all he got was a whiff of blood and perfume.

She's going to die. She's going to die. She's going to die.

Percy pressed his ear against where his Mum's heart should be, the beating was faint, but still there.

She's going to die. She's going to die. She's going to die.

Her heart slowed down, beating in time with the words in his head. Thump. Thump. Thump.

A tear slid down Percy's cheek. Thump. Thump.

She's going to die. Thump.

She's gone.
