He who introduced himself as Aaron was walking in front of me. His cane was carefully examining the ground and making a tapping sound. It was the only sound you could hear in this silent forest. After mentioning his parents he went quiet.

Just a meal and a shower, then I would leave. Nothing less, nothing more. My fingers twitched nervously as I wrinkled the edge of my shirt. It was all torn and covered in smudges. Am I glad that he is blind, yes. Well, not really but he would freak out for this sight. Someone could mistake me as a cave troll in this condition.

We were approaching the spot where he was fishing. The silence made me nervous and I even startled when a bird flew off from a bush nearby. Aaron didn’t react to that at all. My stomach growled and I glanced the ground, blushing and hoping that he wouldn’t hear. I don’t want people to know that I am weak at some points, like being hungry. My eyes see that Aaron is closing to a rock that is stitching out from the ground.

“Watch out Aa-“, I started but stopped when his cane hit the rock and he quickly passed it. “You were saying?” He politely asked and made a quick turn of his head to my direction. He made a quick smirk and made a happy hum.  “Nothing..” I murmured back.

When we arrived at the river he picked up his fishing gear and handed me a cold storage back. “You take care of the fish.. Protect it with your life since it is the dinner!” He laughed and my mind started to calculate. “Wait.. you said that you would offer me a meal and it is morning now! Dinner isn’t coming until many hours!” I stated with annoyance but then felt bad since he was trying to be nice. “Yeah, I will offer you dinner and breakfast as well. You know that food tastes better when you have company?” His voice sounded almost like being amused.

That was a weird thought, having company while eating. Normally I just munch my raw food as fast as I can. “Uh.. no.. I don’t know that.” Next moment felt awkward, he just stood there without saying anything but then smiled. “Well, soon you will know.”

He took his messenger bag and just before he lifted the strap over his shoulder he took sun glasses from its side pocket. Carefully he covered his eyes with them. His face was serious when he spoke to me and broke my concentration on him. “People might think that I look weird without these. I actually don’t know where my eyes look at when other people watch me. “ Well, what was certain to me was that his eyes didn’t look weird at all. The most noticeable thing was the fact that his eyes were blue and somehow they seem to be not as shiny as other people’s eyes.

“There is nothing wrong with your eyes,” I whispered and right after it hoped that I would have kept my mouth shut. He started to laugh.”Thank you. Not many people have the nerves to comment about my eyes since me being blind and such. Some people think it as a taboo subject, like I was missing something.” He started to walk quickly and followed the rivers path to north. His cane made a side to side movement and searched the ground for objects which he needed to avoid. I really needed to fasten my pace to keep up with him.

We walked to an open area. The meadow was surrounding us while we made our way to a heavy built iron gate which was the only way in through an enormous looking wall. Wall that was made of iron spikes. Over the gate was a symbol of “L”  in the form of curly gold letter. We entered through the gate and walked a road that had huge leaf trees following its edges. Leaves were already in the shades of red and gold since it was the fall already.

“You work here?,” I asked in amazement when we slowly arrived at the yard of a huge mansion. He chuckled and started to climb up some stairs to a pair door. When he opened the door a woman stopped dusting a vase and walked to us. “Welcome back mister Aaron,” her voice had honor towards him and she made a little nod on her head as a sign of respect. Aaron laughed and waved his hand. “Please Maria, stop the act already. “ The woman that he called as Maria smiled.
