Over the next few days, Blake couldn't get the thought of Jason, or their meeting, out of her mind. Even as her and Sun looked for clues about what the a White Fang were up to, she felt her mind wander to the spot on the bridge where she had met him a few nights ago. His wink as he turned away, his small chuckle, his eyes, everything about him made her heart skip a beat. She needed to see him again, and soon.
It was on the third night after she met Jason that, at 12:30, just after midnight, she once again took a walk back to the bridge where she had met Jason.
She had been waiting for only a few minutes when she heard his voice behind her. "Hello Blake." She smiled as she turned around. There he was, tall, dark haired, and handsome. Her heart skipped a beat. He walked over and leaned on the rail next to her. They were so close that their hands were only about 10 inches apart. The air between them felt to Blake like it was charged with electricity, causing her to shiver. Jason smiled at her and she blushed. He was absolutely perfect.
They were silent for a while, Blake just looking at him. Everything about him was perfect. His black hair blew in the breeze as he looked out over the water. Then he spoke. "I wish i knew more people like you Blake. More people who really understand me. But that's what makes you so special. You see past me being the prince and see me as an equal. I wish more people could see that. I didn't ask to be born as the prince of all the kingdoms. But it's only one part of who I am. There's a part of me that just wants to be a normal town person. There's my huntsman side of me, the side that calls me to action. But then there's the part of me when I'm with people who understand me... the side that comes out when I'm with you... that's the part I love the most." Blake smiled "Your secret is safe with me." As Jason stretched, his hand brushed Blake. Blake felt as if an electric charge had shot through her and she shivered slightly. If Jason noticed this, he didn't say anything.
Then Jason looked at his watch. "Sorry, I've got to go. I need to get home before they realize I'm gone." Blake nodded. "Ok." She said. "See you around." Jason smiled. Then he did something that Blake would never forget. As he walked past her, he kissed her on the cheek and whispered in her ear "beau chat noir..." Blake's eyes flew wide open and she stood there, stunned. By the time she turned around, he was gone.
Blake stood there, processing everything, with her fingers tracing the place where her his lips had met her cheek. He had called her "beau chat noir," "beautiful black cat." Blake walked back to her house, Jason's last words, as well as the kiss, washing over her. He thought she was beautiful. Blake almost let out a little squeal of joy. Was it possible that he had an interest in her? She needed to find out, and soon.
