9: Red

Mat felt accomplished. Nate was acting like his old self again.

And yet, something was off.

Sometimes Nate seemed to argue with himself. Tell himself that he was in control. Tell someone to go away, that they aren't wanted there.

Mat was confused. 

He asked Phil, the black haired boy, if Dan, the brown haired boy, ever acted this way.

He said he didn't.

So what was wrong with Nate?

He'd been waking up from nightmares almost every night, and curling into Mat just to fall back asleep.

Not that Mat was complaining, or anything.

He was scared for Nate.

He asked him what was wrong and he just replied: "Nightmares."

But Mat didn't think that was all it was.

He was going to find out what was up.

He would swear on his life.
