Anna POV:
"Anna? You need to get up." I hear Peter say as he rubs my back gently.
I let out a small moan as I roll over to face him.
"What?"
"Jason Hegemony is here. We need to question him, and charge him."
"Alright, just give me a second."
"Do you want to just stay in here and rest some more?"
Yes. I need to. I'm absolutely exhausted. But I can't let this interfere with my work. I need to show Peter that I'm strong. I need to show him that I can work all night and not have it interfere the next day.
"I'm fine. Let's go."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jason isn't talking. We've gotten nothing. Absolutely nothing. We've been in here for over an hour now. I glance at the clock on the wall and see that it's already noon. I'm starving. I haven't had a chance to eat anything today. I know I need to eat, but we need to solve this case first.
"Alright, think about that a night very carefully. We will be back, I can assure you that. Come on Valdez."
I follow him out of the interrogation room and into his office.
"What are we going to do?" I ask as he closes the door.
"Don't stress. We'll get him to confess. Even if he doesn't we have that amazing evidence thanks to you."
"Yeah, your right. But how will we charge him if he doesn't confess?"
"We'll make him confess. Just you wait."
"Peter, you know I love you, but your slightly scaring me right now. Please don't take the Hank Voight way."
"I won't, don't you worry."
We slowly walk back to the interrogation rooms.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Alright, fine. I did it. I just decided to kill him out of the clear blue. Why would you think that I would actually confess?!"Jason shouts after another hour of interrogating him.
"Great. I suggest you get yourself a lawyer. We'll see you in court."
We leave the room just as Jason starts yelling about how unfair we're being. Once we make it back to Peter's office I collapse onto his couch.
"Tired?"
"Exhausted. I just need to sit here for a few minutes before we head over for the trial."
"Don't worry about it. We got 20 minutes anyways."
"Great. Hey, how about you lie down. You've got to be as exhausted as I am."
"I'm okay. I'm just going to go home early so I can get a couple more hours in."
"Peter, who knows how long this trial is going to go. Just lie down, I'm okay."
"You sure?"
"Yeah, I love you."
"I love you to."
He lies down on the couch and immediately falls asleep. I don't think I've ever seen Peter sleeping at work. He must be pretty tired if he actually agreed to it. Then out of no where the phone rings.
"Hello?"
"Hello, can I speak to Peter Stone?"
"He's busy right now. But I can take a message. I'm ASA Anna Valdez." I say as I glance over at Peter.
"Alright, can you please tell him that his case of the people vs. Jason Hegemony got moved to 2:15?"
"Sure thing. Thank you very much." I say as I glance at the clock.
It's 2:10, I have to wake Peter up if we're going to make it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Do you want to take the lead on this one?"
"I would love to! Thanks."
"No problem. Just don't stress, it'll all be fine."
"Yeah, your right. Thanks Peter."
"No problem."
We're silent the rest of the way over. We manage to make it with two minutes to spare. We rush in and take our seats before the judge calls the court to order.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It's going well. So far it all seems to be in our favor. But anyone knows how quickly that could change.
Peter was right, I was able to do this. I feel like I'm doing great, and Peter hasn't criticized me at all! But soon that confident feeling fades away. My stomach growls, and I remember that I haven't eaten anything. Nothing at all. I have a feeling this is going to go very, very wrong. I wish I would of grabbed something to eat.
"Ready for our final argument?" Peter asks me.
"I... I don't know."
"Anna, you'll do fine. What's wrong?"
Everything. My head is pounding and I'm feeling slightly lightheaded. What am I going to do? What will Peter do?
As these and many other thoughts race through my mind the judge asks for our final argument. I take a deep breath and stand up. As soon as I do that though I feel very unsteady. I grab onto the desk as I try and steady myself.
"Anna? You okay?" Peter asks.
I give him a slight nod as I walk forward. That was a bad idea. Such a bad idea. I'm so unsteady. This isn't going to end well, at all. I glance back at Peter and he mouths "are you alright?" I shake my head no. I am most definitely not alright.
I take one step forward and I immediately regret it. I can feel my legs grow weak, and my vision swimming in and out of focus. Then everything goes black. Absolutely black.
