Darien's P.O.V.

I make a decision that will change my life forever. I draw my sword and push my sister to the ground. Tightening my grip on the hilt, I walk up to Kalin.

"You are my pirates, which means you follow my orders. All efforts to capture and kill the princess are to be put to rest."

Kalin's eyes widen as Ailee groans from the ground.

"What?" she spits before getting up.

I level my eyes with hers. "I'm sorry, Ailee. I originally agreed to help you with your campaign because I thought I could get revenge. I also thought that Princess Ariana would be an incompetent ruler."

I take a step closer to her. "But I was wrong. I was wrong to judge her because of her murderous father. I was blinded by my need for revenge."

Ailee looks at me like I just spit fire. "You what?! Do you sympathize with that good-for-nothing frilly pink princess now, brother?"

She folds her arms. "Or is it something else?"

She steps closer to me. "Have you fallen for her? Has she bewitched you?"

I raise my sword to her throat. "I'm no longer going after the princess, which means I'm no longer able to help you. I'm sorry, Ailee."

Her eyes grow wide.

"What are you talking about? You know I would be a much better ruler than her!" She screams, pointing to the place where Ariana and the girl ran off only moments ago.

I inhale a sharp breath. "You aren't the rightful ruler of this kingdom. I should've listened to Father when he said we should support the princess."

I bow to Ailee before straightening and putting my sword back into its scabbard.

"Farewell, Ailee."

I pivot on my heel and walk in the direction that Ariana went. I halt once I've walked a few meters and turn to Kalin.

"You and the men stay on the ship, wait for my return."

"Where are you going, sire?"

A soft smile plays on my lips. "Wait for me."

Kalin nods before shouting orders at the men.

I whisper a silent prayer for Ariana and the girl to be alright.

 Please don't be hurt.
