Kira's feet pounded against the hard concrete as she ran through the Toronto streets. Each stride was filled with determination - she knew exactly where she was going and who she would meet there. Her phone suddenly rang, distracting her and causing her to halt. Sarah. She hit decline and kept running.
••
"Bloody cancelled again!" Sarah ran a hand through her hair, pacing throughout the living room. Felix leaned on the wall, folding his arms.
"She can't have gone far, Sarah," he said in his most reassuring tone. Sarah's head snapped round, an even angrier look on her face.
"Fee, its 6PM! It's getting darker every minute, who knows who the fuck is out there!" She rang a final time, this time going straight to voicemail. She threw the phone onto the sofa in frustration, flopping into S' armchair. She put her head in her hands, shaking with anger.
"If she's not back by 8:00, I'm calling Art."
••Pushing open the gate, Kira made her way round to the back of the house. Trying the door, the lock surprisingly opened without a hitch, the door creaking open. She stepped into the kitchen, the perfumey scent of lillies hitting her instantly. A small figure met her at the door, almost perfectly matching her 5'0 height.
"Kira Manning. Isn't this a pleasant surprise?"
"Hello, Rachel." Kira brushed a curl from her own face, looking up to meet Rachel's gaze. The years hadn't changed much, besides Rachel's signature straight bob being left alone in loose waves.
"No. I'm not Rachel Duncan any longer. I haven't been since you and your mother left."
" Well, what's your name then? If you're not Rachel. "
"That's simply on a need to know basis. I have no identity. They can find people easy with an identity." Kira furrowed her brow, the concept not quite setting in.
"Who can find you?" Rachel sighed, gesturing to a chair.
" Take a seat. Clearly your mother hasn't taught you much. "
