Everyone was born with either a pair of cat ears and tail or a pair of dog ears and tail. It's always been that way. They differed with everyone, ranging from different breeds, shapes, lengths, colors... I could go on. The point is, everyone is different, whether they're a cat or dog. Though that didn't mean anyone was- or is- treated equally. Dogs have better lives. They're considered to have higher power and were allowed to be their own person. Dogs aren't discriminated for being the opposite gender of what their species usually contains of. In-fucking-fact, There's an equal amount of female dogs to male dogs. They're respected and obeyed and shit. Blah blah blah whatever. They're treated fairly. Like actual living things. That couldn't be said for cats. Cats are raised to be submissive and sweet and are genetically shorter and "cuter". When a cat is born, they are given a collar that they must not take off for the rest of their lives. It was required. They had to remove their claws, bow to those with higher power, act a certain way...If they didn't fit the expectations society put on them then they were immediately looked down upon. Being a cat was terrible. But only some realized it. Since it's been like this for like, forever no one thinks it's unfair anymore. It's shitty.
So, you'd think that someone defensive, hot-headed, and feared would be a dog right? Wrong. Of course, Connor Murphy was not fortunate enough to be born the species that was actually respected in this hellhole of a society. Fucking perfect. And you know what's even better? Male cats are rare, let alone accepted. There are some good news though. Today is the day. Finally the day I end it all. Get rid of me and my untrimmed claws and ugly multicolored eyes. I had it all planned out. I finally saved up the right amount of sleeping pills and all I have to do is-
Connor was snapped out of his thoughts by Zoe, who was currently standing at his door frame. Her floppy ears bounced slightly as she tapped her foot impatiently. Connor envied her. She was born a dog, like her father. And a pretty one at that. She was a cream dachshund, the color of her ears matching her hair like a perfect fit. He was just a boring black and white magpie cat. He was just extra fluffy. Which, really doesn't help his reputation. But that's not even the worst part. All over his face were speckles and slightly bigger splotches of white and black, just like his ears and tail.
Wow the more I think about it the more I hate it. And let's not forget my hair and how-
"Earth to Connor!" Zoe shouted, snapping her fingers. "Come on get dressed it's time for school, dumbass." Her tail swayed quickly behind her as she headed away from his room, leaving Connor to prepare himself for today. His ear twitched, annoyed, as she left.
School was hell. That's the first word Connor would us to describe the cursed building. As if on cue, the second he stepped through the doors all eyes were on him. He was the only male cat at the school and it was a painful sight. He was harassed for it a lot. He could barely make it 20 minutes on campus without getting shoved or called pussy. Haha very fucking funny. He'd heard it a million times. He stomped through the hallways, clearing paths just by being there. He had almost made it to his locker when he was stopped by a familiar, but dreaded voice.
"Hey Connor! Lovin' the new hair length. Very school shooter chic!" Jared snickered as he approached the cat boy, evan trailing behind him like a scared duckling. Connor didn't respond. He just stood there, staring up at Jared and his wonky Boston Terrier ears. Jared's smug expression faltered. "It's just a joke..." Connor took a step forward, his ears flattening against his head in anger. "Yeah no... It was funny. I'm laughing, can't you see?" He took another step towards Jared and Evan, flashing his sharp teeth. "Am I not laughing hard enough for you?!" He raised his voice, a hiss threatening to escape his throat. Jared took a step backwards, raising his hands in defense before mumbling a "You're such a freak" and striding away, leaving Evan behind with the scariest kid in school. He tried as hard as he could to suppress the itch in his throat but failed, letting a cough leave his lips. Connor's head snapped in Evan's direction. . "What the fuck are you laughing at?!" Evan felt his heart begin to race. "No-No I wasn't-" Connor cut him off. "Stop fucking laughing at me! I'm not the freak! YOU'RE THE FREAK!" Connor screamed, his words mixing with a hiss as he shoved the kid with Golden Retriever ears and the weird blue polo into the lockers behind him and onto the ground. He stormed off, the bell on his thick, dark red leather collar jingling and his combat boots clicking against the tile.
Evan watched in tear filled eyes as Connor Murphy -his crush's cat boy brother- stormed away, leaving him on the hallway floor to attempt to breathe again.
