The white tiles were the death of me
Footsteps echoing, cackling in glee
Yet my heart could not mimic the same joy
For the smile on my face was only a decoy
The door of Room 33 lulled me into its arms
With a clench of jaw, I prepared for the harms
Of the ferocious stares and gleaming eyes
Quick to judge, wanting to pry
To my astonishment, there was nothing
Nothing and no one around to soothe the biting sting
That I felt from being lost and ignored
A river of emotions flooded into a torrential downpour
Perhaps tears clouded my eyes
Perhaps I thought of fighting fear with lies
I slinked to the seat with my nametag attached
And I dreaded and, looking across the room with a poker face to match
Only two pairs of eyes met mine
The rest of the world lost in time
A shy smile shared, a release of tension
There was only curiosity, not condescension
Months after the first day, after my initial arrival
I learned that there was more to this than survival
But friendships true came and went
Some, some remained imprinted in cement
The two on the first day stuck by
Day after day, our antics never died
The days turned to years as time flew, un-aged
From strangers to knowers, all barriers disengaged
Some day you may find yourself looking through the lost and found
Finding a plethora of miscellaneous trinkets abound
Yet don’t hesitate to throw your unwanted belongings into the dejected abyss
The abyss of misfits abandoned memories of bliss
Because someday, another will stumble upon the lost treasure
And they will find their own journeys to explore to the last full measure
But still, there is no shame in sticking to your roots or clutching your battered old teddy bear a little bit tighter
Although some should be discarded, the most precious thoughts should remain, proving you are a fighter
The school’s lost and found is a peculiar place
You may find yourself longing for a familiar face
Yet the new ones may bring something more
The love of friendships and joyful recollection washing onto the shore
~Such cheesiness, I know. But c'mon, just endure this once, ya know? :D
What's everyone doing this summer? I'll be going away the entire summer, so I'm pretty psyched.
Thanks for reading and all your support! I hope you continue to enjoy these rather iffy poems. ^-^
