Peter POV.
The hospital comes into view and as it does I feel a rock land in the pit of my stomach. There was a mob of Geeks directly in front of the hospital. They all seemed to be trying to claw their way through the front doors of the hospital. The Guardians had probably holed themselves up inside. Selfish bastards. They were suppose to 'clear' the way and make an area 'safer' for civilians but at the first sign of trouble they ran. One of the Geeks turns around and for a second I feel our eyes connect. I drop to the ground without thinking, I hit the pavement hard. Pain shoots through my jaw and I taste blood in my mouth. I inch forward and pull myself to my knees.
I peer around the corner of an upside down car, several Geeks were heading in my direction. I pull out the M4 from underneath my belly and prop it up against the ground. The closest Geek, a dark-haired woman wearing dark jeans and a muddy white tank top, was no more than two feet away. If I fired a shot I risked having the entire horde coming after me, but if I didn't I would have to find a way to take the Geek out without being seen by the others.
I pull the trigger and watch as the bullet goes through the Geek's forehead. The body crumbles to the floor, several Geeks turn around at the sound of the bullet fire. I fire four more shots, taking out the Geeks that were closest to me. Now all of the Geeks had turned around, and they were headed in my direction. My finger tightens around the trigger, I was preparing myself, if any Geek got within three feet of me I could just easily put a bullet through their head.
My mind wanders to the Guardians that were holed up inside of the hospital. I doubted that they would leave the safety of the hospital, they would probably stay put. I get ready to pull the trigger once more before I notice something strange. The Geeks were no longer heading in my direction, they had changed coursed, instead they began to surround an ambulance that was parked a few feet away from the doors of the hospital. I watch as the Geeks desperately begin clawing the sides of the ambulance.
I jump to my feet and begin to crouch slowly towards the hospital. I pause as I reach the hood of a tan sedan, the ambulance stood to my right side, if I was quiet enough I could sneak around the left side of the hospital. Right now I had the cars to cover my movement but once I moved away from them I would be totally exposed.
I look at the M4 in my hands, I had fired five shots, that meant there was about 25 bullets left in the chamber. I look back at the horde of Geeks, there was definitely more than twenty-five Geeks surrounding the van but if I aimed above the shoulders I had a greater chance of taking out two of them with one bullet. I bring up the gun so that it was parallel to my shoulders, I needed to do this and I needed to do it fast. I take a deep breath and steady my aim before I pull the trigger. Bullets fire out of the gun faster than I can count, jumping over the hood of the sedan I continue shooting as I walk around the side. Geeks begin dropping to the floor like stones.
The gun clicks and refuses to fire, I was out of ammo. I pull out my revolver and shoot the remaining Geeks that were on the side of the van. The turn around just in time to shoot a Geek right between the eyes. I look at the bodies that laid around me, black goo was splattered all over the ambulance and the rear doors had a pile of bodies lying directly in front of it. I jog around the ambulance, there wasn't any Geeks left, at least none that I could see. I quickly glance up and down the street, Geeks were beginning to appear out of some of the buildings.
They walked on the roads and had their eyes trained directly on me. I position myself behind the rear doors of the van, sweat pours down my face as I place my forefinger on the trigger, using my left hand I grab the door handle. I didn't know what to expect, but something definitely had to be in here, especially if the Geeks had been so desperate to get inside. I yank open the door only to be immediately tackled to the ground. I feel cool metal touch my throat, a knife. I let go of the revolver, I close my eyes as the knife is pressed harder into my skin.
"Peter?" Her voice fills the air, I open my eyes and stare straight into hers. She was the last person I expected to see, and although relief coursed through me, I noticed something. She still had the knife pressed against my throat and it seemed to be digging deeper and deeper into my skin.
