Jade's P.O.V.
I stalked away from Mr. Track and stormed out to the balcony. "Why the hell did Mr. Track have to tell me that my mother was not who I thought" I thought angrily.
I clutched the railing as I began to try and puzzle out what he meant. I looked out onto the brightly lit city before me.
As I stood on the balcony, thinking the door behind me opened, and I heard a impossibly familiar voice say "Jade?" I froze in shock and slowly turned around.
Standing behind me in a white tux was Brady! Time seemed to slow as I looked at him. The only difference was he was taller.
"It's not possible. I saw him die." I thought as my thoughts and emotions began to run rampant.
"This can not be real. I'm hallucinating or you're a trick," I cried in fearful confusion.
A look of confusion flashed across its face before it said "Poof it's me. What is going on?" With a cry of surprise I stumbled backwards.
"It knows Brady's nickname for me! How?" I thought pressing myself against the rail.
Clutching the railing I felt like my world was shattering. Determined to get away from the doppelganger I launched myself into the air, and heard it shout in shock. I hovered looking at the Brady look a like.
Before I could fly away there was a blur of blue and yellow, and suddenly a weight was hanging onto my ankle. I glanced down and saw the Brady thing hanging onto my ankle.
"GET OFF!" I shouted. I began swerving to shake it off. With a yelp it clutched me tighter.
"P- put me- e dowwwn," it cried desperately. I landed on a nearby rooftop. Balling my fists I prepared to fight it.
It stumbled away and screamed "What the hell Jade?!?! How the frick can you fly and why did you just try to kill me??" "Who are you?" I responded angry that someone was trying to trick me.
"Who do you think genius?!?" It spat out sarcastically "Brady duh!"
"Impossible I saw him die!!!"
"What? I think I would know if I died!" He said before he became real still and his face became troubled.
"What?" I asked the thing curiously.
"It's nothing I should go," he muttered "I'm sorry." He took off in blur of blue and yellow lightning. I stood there for a minute processing.
That thing knew Brady's nickname for me. It had superspeed and talked exactly the same. Slowly it dawned on me that that was actually Brady!
"WAIT NO!" I screamed as I flew after him. It was too late Brady was gone. After a couple of minutes of searching in vain I flew back to the gala.
I landed on the roof and pulled open the roof access door. Running my hands through my hair to calm it down, I took a deep breath to compose my self.
As I slipped back into the gala my eye caught on a girl in a tight red dress who looked upset and was standing off to the side. I made my way towards her.
She whipped out her phone looking like she was pissed off, but she sighed and put it away.
I finally approached and said "Hey I'm Jade are you ok?"
She glanced at me with annoyance in her gaze, and said "I'm Nayeli and why do you care?"
"Because you looked upset and I wanted to make sure you were ok."
"Oh! Well thanks and I guess so it's just that my friend that was my plus one ditched me."
"Ah that sucks."
"Yeah well this had been entertaining but I have better things to do," she drawled, switching moods quickly, and sauntered off. I sighed and rolled my eyes.
As she walked away I thought "That was a awkward conversation."
A couple of hours passed in complete boredom. Around 10 my mother said "Come on time to go."
"Ok," I replied shortly as I followed her to the door.
The car ride home was filled with a tense and awkward silence. We pulled into the parking garage, and I climbed out and rushed to the elevator.
My mother called "Jade what is wrong?"
"Uhhh... tired," I replied quickly to try and hide my confusion. Finally the elevator arrived in the penthouse.
I immediately made a beeline for my room and let out a big sigh as I flopped onto my bed. I laid there for a few minutes with my thoughts racing.
"What exactly did Mr. Track mean by my mom was not who I thought she was. How can Brady br alive" I thought in vain. With a sigh I sat up.
I slipped out of my dress and changed into my bed clothes. I put my hair up into a messy bun.
I grabbed my laptop to do some research and then laid back down. Once my laptop was turned on I typed into Google resurrection. Over 64 billion hits popped up. "Damn," I whispered.
I searched resurrection super speed. With in a moment 4000 hits popped up. The next hour was spent fruitlessly searching for information.
Eventually in frustration I typed in resurrection velocity I clicked on the first result which was a blog titled Velocity out ran death?
"What the heck" I thought as I began reading the first blog post. As I scrolled through it I began to frown.
It was an insane theory that Velocity had survived the fight with Lightspeed because he was a god. But a second more promising theory said that he had been resurrected and was in New York.
Apparently about a month ago there had been an electrical storm and a couple of eyewitnesses swore they saw a blue and gold steak come out of the storm.
Of course the police dismissed it as a trick of the light. But in the past month a couple reports of a blue and gold blur zipping around New York had cropped up. Even so it was not enough to support the theory until this morning apparently.
According to the next blog post there had been a bus accident this morning and everyone was saved by a blur.
I sat there pondering this new information. "Was it possible?" I wondered.
As I laid there I heard an annoying beeping noise coming from outside my room. Putting my laptop down I got up to investigate.
Pushing my door open I crept into the hallway and followed the noise. The noise led me to my mother's study and I saw the door was slightly ajar.
I hesitated slightly then I thought "If she's hiding something I need to know," before shoving the door open. My gaze immediately was drawn to the desk which had a strange device on it.
The pyramid like device was the source of the beeping. It was like something out of a science fiction book. Creeping closer I examined the device it was about a foot tall and made of a silver material.
On it there were glowing red lines going up to the top.
The pinnacle of the pyramid was open on all sides. Coming out of the center was a large needle made of some type of crystal.
"This must be a Quantum Corp. project. But why is it here?" I thought. Suddenly I heard my mom's bedroom door open the hall and her head towards the study. "Shoot," I thought as I ducked behind a the desk.
Crouching there I held my breath as my mom shuffled into the room.
"Wow! It's working I can't believe this. Soon I'll finish and then Jade will be safe," whispered my mother as she picked up the device. Smiling slightly she walked out of the study.
I crouched in bewildered silence as my mind struggled to understand. "What are you up to mom?" I thought as I steeled myself to follow her.
I slipped out from behind the bookshelf and began to follow. She went up to the roof. I stepped on to the balcony and flew up.
I hovered under the edge of the roof. I peered over and my eyes widened in surprise and confusion. My mother stood on the roof staring at the strange device. It was floating in mid-air and the crystal was getting brighter.
The device began to hum loudly. "Oh mom you're definitely up to something," I thought as I watched the strange scene unfolding before me.
Finally the humming ended and the crystal shot out a beam of red light into the sky. The device shut off and fell to the ground with a clunk.
Grinning creepily my mother picked up the device and flounced away. I floated up on to the roof and glanced around. My eyes caught on a weird red pile of shards.
"Hm" I thought as I kneeled down. I sifted through the pile. I picked up a shard and held it closely to my eye.
The crystal was cold too touch, but it seemed to have a dim glow coming from somewhere in it. Furrowing my brow I pocketed the shards and went to head back inside. I flew down to the balcony.
Once I heard my mother enter her room I snuck in and headed back to my room. Quietly I entered and climbed in my bed.
Yawning I closed my eyes and attempted to sleep. As I drifted off to sleep something nagged at me. But before I could figure it out sleep overtook me and I drifted off to sleep.
