Hayleigh's P.O.V.
It was storming outside as I slowly woke up. Laying in bed I groaned as I picked up a stray thought from my sister Jessica God this is not going well! I put up my mental shields and crawled out of bed.
I stumbled across the room to my closet. Half asleep I pulled out a hoodie and a pair of light blue jeans.
I slowly began to get dressed when my phone beeped. I walked over and unplugged my phone. I saw that I had a new message from a unknown number. Is this Hayleigh Turner's number? It said I replied yea who is this?
Jade. Came the reply.
I blinked in surprise and sent back hi? How/y u texting me?
Bc we need to talk.
Ok why?
Meet me at Tiffany's in 15 minutes.
K I replied confused.
Shoving my phone into my pocket I slid on a pair of boots.
"Jessica I'm going out see you tonight." I called as I walked to the door.
"Wha- ok," called my sister frazzled from the kitchen. Yanking open the door I walked into the hall.
I walked over and pushed the elevator button. Bing the doors slid open and I stepped in. As the doors began to slide closed a red haired woman thrust out her hand and slid in.
She was wearing a dark blue dress and little black heels.
She glanced at me with a calculating gaze.
Oddly for some reason she made me feel uncomfortable so I attempted to read her mind, but I found nothing. A small frown appeared on my face, and I stepped back as a sliver of fear gathered in my stomach.
A sly smile graced her face as we hit the ground floor. The doors whooshed open, and as she stepped out she said "Thanks for playing dear!"
I jogged after her to try to understand what had just happened, but a man got in my way, so by the time I maneuvered around him the woman had vanished. Hurrying to the doors I stepped outside and glanced around.
She was indeed gone she'd vanished into the bustling crowd; with a huff I began heading to Tiffany's. Continuing down the sidewalk I began to think about my last encounter with Jade.
It had not gone well at all. I shook my head to clear the memories.
A cold gust of wind hit me causing me to stuff my hands in my blue hoodie's pockets. As I waited to cross the road a fat drop of rain hit my hair. Sighing I glanced up at the dark grey sky as the rain resumed.
Reaching back I flipped on my hood. I stood at the crosswalk waiting. The glowing white walk symbol appeared. I jogged across the walkway.
The rain began to pour very hard like a hail of arrows pouring down.
Deciding to take a shortcut I ducked into a narrow alleyway.
It was a narrow alleyway with a noxious stench and looming concrete walls, and it was littered with trash. Hurrying through the alleyway my foot hit a can sending it skittering.
With a light clang it hit a wall causing me to jump. I let out a self- depreciating laugh. "Scaredy cat," I thought as I exited the alley.
The rain was harder than ever causing me to stick against the storefronts. As I passed under the awnings I shivered due to the cold. Finally I arrived at the street where Tiffany's was. Hurrying quickly I sped towards it.
The heavy rain was causing a haziness which made the street develop an almost ominously mystical feel. A thick fog had begun to fill the street.
Arriving at Tiffany's I ran inside, and was greeted by a charming interior. Standing in the lobby I pulled down my hood.
As I shook my damp hair Jade saw me and waved me over. I approached the table. Jade was wearing a rich green sweater, jeans, black converses and had her hair in a messy bun.
"Hey..." Said Jade awkwardly as I sat down in the plush booth.
"Hi... so what's going on Jade? Why are you in New York and why did we need to meet?"
"Uh well I'm here because my mother got a new job at Quantum Corp. And well... I have news," She said nervously. Before she could finish a waiter walked over.We both ordered, and the waiter hurried off.
"What is the news?" I asked her.
There was a moment of silence then she took a deep breath adjusted a stray hair and said "Brady is alive!"
I stared at her for a moment before angrily snapping "What the hell?!? No he's not don't mess around."
"I'm not kidding Hayleigh. I swear on my life it was definitely Brady." She responded just as the waiter returned with our stuff. He placed our stuff down and walked off.
As soon as he was out of earshot I asked "How would that be possible? And where'd you even see him."
Jade shrugged and said "I have no clue, but it was definitely him he called me Poof! I saw him at the Quantum Corp. Gala last night." I blinked in surprise before scoffing and shaking my head.
"No it's a trick or you're lying!" I declared causing Jade to get upset.
"What in the world!??! Hayleigh I cannot freaking believe you! Why would you say that?"
"Because you lied to me the last time we saw each other." I hissed before taking a burning sip of my drink.
Eyes burning with anger she slammed her coffee down and shouted "You bitch! You know why I did and the fucking fact that you think I'd lie about this is unbelievable!!!!"
Everyone turned to stare as I growled back "I'll never be able to forgive you. And say one more thing and I will deck you!"
Suddenly we were being dragged out by two security guards. Once we were on the sidewalk Jade cried "You're nothing but a insecure, whiny brat!"
My anger exploded and I used my powers to send her sprawling backwards. She crashed into several pedestrians. They let out cries of surprise.
A rain soaked Jade sat up and let out a feral growl. Suddenly out of nowhere a blast of fire and smoke hurtled towards me.
I cried out as I barely dodged. As my knees slammed into the pavement, two lances of pain shot through my legs. Glancing up I saw no sign of Jade, but a crowd had formed around me.
Like an animal desperate to escape a slaughter I pushed into the crowd. Just as I slipped away two police cars pulled up. Breathing heavily I ducked into the subway.
"Where the heck did that blast come from? It couldn't have come from Jade right?" I thought as I stood on the packed platform.
The weak point is almost ready! Roared through my head. I stumbled backwards into a older gentlemen. He let out a cry as he stumbled.
The agony began to subside as I sat down. Murmers of annoyance and worry filled the air.
A large man with a bushy mustache like a catpillar said "Are you all right young lady?" I opened my lips to reply but before I could the voice came again.
As the point continues to weaken I must prepare. Soon I shall destroy that pathetic universe and expand! The pain reached a peak causing me to let out a sob.
The subway pulled up, and I somehow managed to push myself up. In a daze of pain and confusion I managed to make to a seat. I sunk down into it.
The passengers gave me looks as they filed on. I took a deep breath, and sent out a probing thought. But I soon had to stop, for the pain was growing worse.
My skull felt as if someone had just done a tap dance with iron shoes on it. My vision began to waver. As my stomach began to rebel I bit my lip.
Then like Old Faithful I erupted. My vomit spewed across the car eliciting shrieks. Several people rushed to the edge of the car. With a groan I clutched my head as the pain reached its pinnacle.
My vision began to fade. Weakly I clutched the edge of the seat. "What's happening to me?" I thought as I keeled forward.
Then the comforting darkness took over before I hit the metal floor.
Several hours later...
Slowly my eyelids opened. I took a confused glance around the room I was in. Hitting me like a ton of bricks I realized I was in a hospital room.
Terror gripped me. Bolting up I rolled out of the bed. As I hit the floor my thoughts raced. I shakingly stood up. Just as I turned around the door opened.
A handsome doctor stepped in to the sterile white room. "Oh you're up!"
"Uh y- yes what's going on?" I asked as a wave of naseua hit me. Groaning I stumbled, and the doctor rushed over.
He helped me back into the bed before replied "You vomited and fainted on the subway. We detected that you had a slight internal bleeding from the brain."
My fear multiplied as I whispered "Why?"
"We're not entirely sure... so we're keeping you overnight for observation." He said as he stroked his stubble. My cheeks glowed red like a traffic light.
Smirking he said "Alright young lady I'll be in later to check on you." He sauntered out and I attempted to clear my head.
Sighing I expanded my mental field and began to meditate. Only a couple of seconds passed before the door was flung open into the wall. Jessica rushed to me.
She quickly began to question me. Feeling overwhelmed I said "Jessica slow down." She stopped suddenly and looked at me closely.
"Are you ok?" She asked. I shrugged, but before I could answer a nurse entered.
"Ma'am I'm sorry but visiting hours are over you have to leave." The nurse said. Jessica's expression was annoyed as she bade me goodnight and stalked out.
The nurse did a couple of tests before leaving. After she had left I was too tired to even attempt to think about the weird voice. So I laid my head down and drifted off into a uneasy slumber.
