The week had continued on as per usual.
The only exciting things that the week really held were a few tests, me being yelled at by several of my teachers for 'missing' so many classes when I'd just moved here, hanging out at the fort a lot with the coven and mostly avoiding the watchful and intimidating eyes of Denali.
I still hadn't talked to her since last Saturday, but tonight was the night of the party and I knew deep down I'd have to face it again.
It was now Saturday, and I was in my room (where I had locked myself in all day in order to escape my suffocating relatives), looking through my closet for something half decent to wear.
The last party I had been to was my 'send off' party back in New York that all my friends planned for me. Of course, those were people I didn't have to worry about, who I could be myself around. This party was different. I still barely knew anyone, everyone was more just an acquaintance except for the witches. I had no clue what to wear, how to act, if I should bring soda or something? No, scratch that, I'd totally be lame if I did that. I assumed there would probably be drinking and maybe even drugs. I had no experience with either substance, never been drunk or high and I honestly didn't plan on it unless I succumbed to peer pressure, which was never advised.
I told my mom I'd be simply sleeping over with friends. I assumed the party would go late enough that she'd wonder where I was if I didn't get home by at least 11:00.
I eventually decided on a short black dress that looked very Halloween inspired, considering it was a party themed around the holiday.
I didn't go too crazy with any makeup or accessories, I didn't need my mom calling me out on anything and having to redo the entire look.
My phone buzzed from my nightstand and I looked at the message. It was from Scarlet. She was supposed to be picking me up in another hour, but texted me she was here now. Almost on queue, my mom sounded from downstairs that my friend was here.
I ran down the stairs, a bit of blush creeping up on my cheeks when I saw Scarlet chatting with Sage, her bright red lips smiling sweetly.
I smiled awkwardly, interrupting their conversation about school. "Ready to go?" Scarlet smiled at me, seeming way nicer than she usually did, anything to make a good first impression.
I nodded, starting to walk out the door. I dodged a kiss from my mom, muttering under my breath to her. "Mom, I gotta look cool in front of her."
She chuckled, nodding like she understood teenage struggles. "Alright hon, have a good time. Let me know if you need to be picked up tomorrow or not."
I walked down the driveway after Scarlet, her black high heels clicking against the pavement.
Her car was a red convertible, I expected no less than that from her. I felt almost not good enough to be seen riding in it. My mom owned a small mini van that had been bought from a used car dealership, so it goes without saying that I felt completely bad ass in this.
Scarlet started driving, her eyes a bit blank as she stared out onto the darkening streets. It was only around 6:00 right now, and the sun was setting under a bright pink sky.
"So, are you excited?" She asked, glancing at me for a moment with a smile.
I shrugged. "I guess, I've never really been to a real high school party before though, so I don't know what to expect."
