"Psst, Y/n." Thomas hissed as he jabbed a pencil into your back.
You ignored him, trying desperately to copy down everything your professor said.
"Y/nnnn." He whined, drawing out the last syllable of your name for several seconds.
"Fuck off, Jefferson." You growled as you furiously wrote.
"She speaks!" He gasped sarcastically.
"You realize no one in this lecture hall is talking except you, right?"
"And you."
"Only because you made me."
"I didn't do anything of the sort."
"L/n! Jefferson! Quiet!" The professor ordered.
"Now look what you've done." You muttered.
He scoffed, but relaxed back in his seat, finally turning his attention away from you. Thomas was one of your best friends but, my god, can he be annoying. The professor brought her lecture to a close and announced that you were finally free to leave.
Thomas caught your arm as you swung your bag over your shoulder.
"What do you need, Jefferson?" You sighed, anxious to get out of your last class of the day.
"I need you to do something for me." He explained as you walked out of the lecture hall.
"Sounds exhausting."
"C'mon!" He sang, "It's easy, anyone can do it!"
"If anyone can do it, then someone who's not me can do it." You countered.
"It's easy, but only you can do it!" He exclaimed, exasperated.
"What is it?"
He hesitated, thinking of what to say. "I can't tell you." He decided.
You sighed dramatically. "Well, you know I can't pass up a mystery." You emphasized as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.
"That I do." He confirmed.
"So where are we going?" You asked as you followed him down the crowded hallways.
"My car."
"And where are we going once in your car?"
"Somewhere."
"How specific." You rolled your eyes as you exited the school and walked through the maze of cars in the parking lot.
Once you reached the expensive looking red car, (you think you remember Thomas saying it was a Lamborghini), Thomas pulled open the door for you before walking over to the driver's side and getting in himself. He pulled a ringing phone out of his pocket and pressed it to his ear before starting the car.
"Hey James, what's shakin?" He asked. "Good to hear, we're leaving now. Yeah, me too. Alright, see ya." He hung up after the quick conversation and began pulling out of the school parking lot.
"You made poor James skip class so he could set up whatever the hell we're doing?" You sighed.
"He was sick, he was going to miss class anyways." He brushed you off.
You sighed as you relaxed in the seat and pulled out your phone, scrolling through Tumblr until the car came to a stop.
"Are we here?" You asked, glancing up.
"Yeah, but I need you to close your eyes." He requested.
"Thomas, what the fuck are you making me do?" You groaned.
"Close your eyes." He repeated.
You sighed before shutting your eyes and letting him guide you out of the car. You walked a ways over soft ground until you were brought to a stop.
"Okay, open your eyes." He told you.
You opened your eyes, temporarily blinded by the bright sun. A magenta cloth was laid down on the soft green grass, showing off Thomas' signature color. On it sat a picnic basket and a bottle of wine plunged into a container of ice. On either side of the blanket, plates silverware and wine glasses were set up.
"What did you break?" You immediately asked.
"What? No, I didn't break anything." He laughed. "This is a date." He clarifies after seeing your confused look.
"A date that you didn't ask me on." You crosses your arms over your chest.
"I mean I kind of did? Either way, this is our date and we're going to have a fun time." He sat down on the cloth and pulled the wine out of the ice, gesturing at the seat across from him.
You sighed as you sat down and watched him pour a bubbling white wine into your glass. "Champagne?" You asked, "What are we celebrating?"
"Our first date!" He enthusiastically replied, setting down the wine and raising his glass to meet yours. You held back a laugh at his behavior as you clinked your glass against his and took a sip of the wine.
"So, what is this, actually?" You asked, carefully setting your glass down on a flat area of ground. "I mean, we're just friends, you don't like me that way." You pointed out, sadness evident in your tone.
"Y/n, this wine costed 115 dollars. I have 1,000 dollars worth of cheese in that basket imported from France. Do you think I would spend that much on someone I just considered a friend?" He sighed, turning serious.
Jefferson has always seemed pretty shitty when it came to love. It wasn't a surprise to see him try to buy your affection.
"Thomas, I- well I mean thanks, but you didn't have to do that. You don't have to buy my love; I don't want you to. I love you for your personality and your shitty jokes and the obnoxious way you bug me like a neglected puppy. I like you for you, Thomas." You looked away, embarrassed after your confession.
"Really?" He asked, a wide grin crossing his face.
"Of course, you dweeb. Every girl in school drools over you, I might as well, too." You playfully hit his shoulder.
"Psh, you're way better than those stuck up bitches." He insisted.
"I would hope so. What'cha got in here? I'm starving." You leaned over to the basket and pulled out a box of fancy ass crackers and a variety of cheeses along with a wooden board to put them on.
You two chatted back and forth and you quickly scarfed down the expensive meal. You looked up at the quickly darkening sky, realizing how late you had stayed out.
"I should head home, Angelica's probably worried sick." You sighed, not wanting the date to end.
"Angelica." Thomas shuddered, "I don't like her."
"Oh yeah, didn't she punch you in the face once and now you won't go in a room that she's in because of how much she scares you?" You teased.
"Yeah." He muttered.
You and he stood up, packing up the remnants of your picnic. You walked to the car, you with the brightly colored cloth draped over your arm as Thomas carried the basket. You dumped the- probably more expensive than your college tuition- cloth into the backseat and sat yourself in the passenger seat.
Thomas closed himself into the driver's seat and started the ignition, warm air quickly filling the car. You rode in comfortable silence, music gently playing from the speakers.
"This is it, right?" Thomas asked, pulling into the parking lot outside your apartment.
"Yep." You confirmed.
"Let me walk you to your door." He offered, trying off the car and exiting the vehicle with you following quickly after.
You walked with him to your door, stopping to talk on the doorstep.
"Y/n, do you want to date?" He blurted out.
You laughed. "I've wanted that for as long as I've known you, Jefferson."
"R-really? That's-!" He coughed and attempted to hide his excitement. "That's great."
You leaned up on your tiptoes and planted a kiss on his lips, holding it for several seconds before breaking away, your cheeks burning.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Thomas." You told him shyly.
"See you, Y/n." He said before heading over to his car.
You opened the door and stepped inside, grateful to be in the heated house. You were met face to face with Angelica, who had obviously been eavesdropping the whole time.
"You did not just kiss Thomas Jefferson." She scoffed.
"Oh, no yeah, I definitely did." You laughed.
"Y/n, I swear to god..."
"Look at the time, I'll see you tomorrow, Angelica." You said quickly, dancing around her and up the stairs.
"Y/n!"
