'Diego'
I sat.
And I waited.
For how long I don't even know.
I wanted her to call back.
I wanted to make sure it was okay.
That she was okay.
I sat there, or I moved to a different room, my eyes not leaving the phone.
My phone vibrated.
One percent remaining. Please charge.
I quickly dialed the number.
"Hey, it's me. It's getting late, and my phone is about to die. I hope everything is okay. And that your okay. Try calling me later, okay?"
I hang up and turn my phone off and plug it in.
It was three in the morning.
I didn't even realize it was that late.
I sat on my bed for a few minutes before laying down trying to sleep.
Her voice lingered in my head.
By the time I woke up it was one in the afternoon.
I shot up and turned my phone on.
It seemed like it took forever to turn on.
One new message (1)
"You have one unheard message... First unheard message..."
"....I don't know what to do." She sounded like she was crying. "I don't like this.... Help me."
I hung up my voicemail and called the number.
It rung three times.
"Hey, I'm here." I say in a quiet voice.
"I don't want to be here."
"I wouldn't expect you to want to. What's your name?"
"Remy... What's yours?"
"Diego. How old are you Remy?"
"Seventeen. I'm gonna be eighteen soon."
"Remy, you have to help me find were you are, so I can get you away from that man. Okay?"
"I don't know anything Diego."
"I can't help you if you can't help me. Tell me anything." I say standing up and walking outside.
I couldn't be inside anymore.
"It's always dark, unless he comes in from the steps and leaves the door open."
"So no windows."
"No."
"What about him? Tell me about him. What's his name?"
"I heard his wife call him Robert, the last name is something, like it was a presidents. Hariss? Something like that."
"Harrison?"
"Yeah. Yeah. That's it."
"Alright. I'm gonna help you I swear I-"
"I have to go Diego."
She hangs up.
Robert Harrison.
Been a while.
Man.
What?
Tenth grade I think?
