"Bye papa!"yelled Viollet as she ran out of the house to buy bread. Viollet skipped to the store and looked up at the clear sky.  When she got to the store she bought bread for her and her father to have breakfast. "Have a good day dear" said the old shopkeeper who knew Viollet from the multiple times she'd been there before.

On Viollet's way home sh e was lost in her own thoughts when suddenly a stray black cat crossed in front of her. "Eeekkkk" Viollet squealed at the top of her lungs as she fell face first onto the concrete.

The bread flew from her arms then a boy with messy green hair and freckles stole the loaf of bread and ran off

The bread flew from her arms then a boy with messy green hair and freckles stole the loaf of bread and ran off. "No!" Viollet screamed. As she chased him, they ran through the town as villagers yelled at them to stop. Then they ran to a hill with a river at the end of it. The boy stopped and hesitated to run any further, but Viollet was at full speed and ran straight into the boy, pushing them both down the hill into the water.

The water was about ankle length and was covered in smooth stones underneath. The boy was nailed to the ground in the water, and as he looked up, he saw Viollet over him. The boy looked scared and hesitant as if the water was 100 feet deep and they were surrounded by sharks and sea monsters. "Hi" she said. The boy jumped up throwing Viollet off him into another part of the water, and he started to run as fast as he could until Viollet grabbed his wrist. She could feel his hand shaking and his eyes looked fearful. Viollet hesitated "w-why do you need my bread?" The boy stopped for a second and looked at her as she went on "I- I need it for my dad". The boy turned around and said "I need it more". "Wait" yelled Viollet annoyed "why do you need it more?" The boy did not answer her. "Don't you have a family to give you money to buy your own?" Viollet asked with concern. The boy looked at her and said "I killed my family". Viollet looked at him with a blank stare. "That's nice" she said with a smile.

The boy was shocked. "What's your name" he asked. "Viollet with two L's" she said.  "What about you?" "I'm Shou" the boy said "with um a U instead of an E". "Wow" Viollet said. "I think your name means soar or glide and prize or reward right? "I never thought of it that way" said Shou. "My mom died when I was born" said Viollet "and I need the bread for my dad who is getting weaker by the second".  "I-I'm sorry" said Shou  as he handed Viollet the bread loaf. Viollet accepted it and split the loaf in half. She gave one half to her new friend and kept the other half.

"Well where  ya heading to now?" asked Violett.  "I don't know" mumbled Shou. Viollet held out her hand and asked with a bright smile, "friends?" Shou took her hand and said "friends" and gave a little smile. "Okay, then come on, we are going to your new home" Viollet said while she took his hand and started walking. "Huh?" said Shou. Viollet said "you're my friend and you don't have a house to stay in, or a family...and friends help friends so you're coming to stay with me...you have no choice in the matter because you can help with the garden and kill animals for our food.  It's not like I like that but still you know we need animals to live and --"  "Oh" said Shou interrupting Viollet.
