Chapter Two: A Year Later
Melissa
"Hey!", a voice that I was overly familiar with, spoke to me.
I closed my eyes and pinched the bridge of my nose. This boy is too irritating for his own good. "Alexander, stop creeping up on me." A year passed but this idiot didn't change, his height is still as short as ever. I've gotten a bit used to him. After all, he's my partner. Though I didn't say we are getting along because we aren't.
"We've been best buds for year already so don't act like I'm a complete stranger."
"Best buds?" I sneered. Ever since I've been a soul reaper eight months ago, this idiot has been annoying me to be on good terms with him which is impossible. During this past year he's been arguing with me.
"Yeah. We are co-workers after all. I'm stuck with you so I have to at least get along with you. Right my feisty partner?"
"We are just forced to work with each other so we don't have to."
"Aw. There is absolutely no fun in that. Besides, I was the one who told you to become a soul reaper. It is not like I like you either. Come on. I just need you to cooperate. I don't need us being cheeky to each other."
"Shut up kiddo. We need to check the book again. Lets go."
He furrowed his eyebrows. "Stop calling me a kid.", he demanded.
"I know you're a hundred years older than me but you are still a shorty and behave super childishly."
"You didn't change either. You are still the same bitchy tomboy."
I ruffled his raven hair. "Whatever kid."
He stared as me as if he was contemplating if he was going to say something or not.
"Something on your mind?"
"Nah. Just wanted to ask if you wanna fly together?", he offered. When I got my power eight months ago, I was relieved because it meant I wouldn't depend on this guy for transportation. He has this knick for scaring the heck out of me.
"I am never flying again with you. I can teleport now and that's much safer than you." When you become a soul reaper, you get a power for the purpose of subduing defiant souls who still don't want to leave the world.
I got the power of teleportation which I am truly grateful for. It means I don't have to repeat flying with Alexander ever again.
"I have a better idea. You want to race there? Last one is a jerk."
"That's unbelievably unfair. You can teleport!", he complained.
"Buh bye." I stuck my tongue out.
I teleported to the library. I always visit this library. There are a lot of books here. Some have existed since the 50's but a lot existed much more longer than those. The library has a lot of candles with dim lights.
As expected I got there first. "I was first."
"Just as you wanted. That is actually cheating. Try taking the long way by flying in this heat. My wings feel roasted."
I laughed. "Hahaha. Funny. You can never be burned. You and I know that."
"I wasn't literally burning but it felt that way.", he argued.
"Anyway, you're a jerk so lets check the book already."
I openned the book of Hades. I skipped to the latest page. Somehow, this book updates every month. It's a complete mystery for me. Alexander and I are in charge of my old hometown in California.
