Prologue
I am currently residing in hell. Literally. I'm not using a metaphor.
It's been exactly a year since my death. On a cold winter morning, I ceased to live. I was sixteen when I died from a car accident. I've done a lot of nasty things during the past sixteen years so I wasn't the least bit surprised when I ended up in hell.
Living here has been excruciatingly painful. The unbearable heat and excessive screams of those being tormented are constantly making my life here miserable. Not like I'm actually alive. At first I complained nonstop because I couldn't adapt to this kind of environment. Time passed and I had no choice but to cope with it. It's not like I could return to Earth anyway.
I have one of the highest positions here. I'm the one who escorts the souls to damnation. I obliged to check the book of Hades which contains all the names of those who will be sent here in one hundred days. I check them before their deaths to make sure we didn't get an innocent person. If we make a mistake the angels will have to give us the proper scolding. By scolding, I don't mean just the boring lectures but extremely impossible ordeals. My partner is the childish demon, Alexander. I just don't mean childish in attitude but also his appearance is of a child's.
They are angels but the heck are they sadistic. It isn't like I am accusing them of being overdramatic. A simple mistake can tip off the balance and pitiful the soul gets trapped here for the rest of eternity.
Once you're here there's no hightailing out. You can't leave. There is no crevice nor hole that can lead you away from here. You are stuck in here forever.
I always wondered what happened to the people that I left behind. Here in hell, you aren't allowed to sneak a peek on Earth. They established that rule to torture us by making our imagination run wild and think of unspeakable horror.
Though the only exceptions to this rule are the soul reapers like me. Unfortunately, the only thing we get to do on Earth is to find the souls and bring them to hell. We aren't allowed to watch over our loved ones. After all, we aren't guardian angels, it isn't art of our job description. Besides, only souls can see the other soul reapers so we can't interact with the living. Demons who are soul reapers can be seen by the living but demons don't like humans so they never show themselves.
One of my loved ones that were left behind, is my boyfriend. He was my everything. I loved him until my unexpected death. I know that sounded cliché but whatever. I'm just telling the truth, pardon me for being honest. I'm being honest so I'll take it all the way. Honestly, I haven't known about his whereabouts for over a year. I missed him.
It really surprised me to see his name in the book of Hades.
Ethan Carter.
In a hundred days...I have to make sure he survives...Okay. I am feeling really obliged to do so. I blame myself. I went back to Earth but it wasn't my old body I was using it was a new one. The body of the girl named, Elaine Lewis.
I was surprised to see the person I once loved, had crumbled down and it was all because of me. He became an entirely different person.
