Max's POV

"So where's y/n?" My mother asked after we had set the table and were sitting down.

"Oh she isn't feeling well" I lied. I still can't believe that she would just leave me like that.

"Oh, I hope she feels better" she replied.

"Still I wanted to see her before we headed back. I guess she isn't as committed to you as we thought." Charlotte added.

"Hey wait-" I started before my mom interrupted me.

"I can see what you mean, she seemed fine last time I saw her."

"Maybe it's the flu. She wasn't at work so she's sick" I defended. I know I was lying, but they had no right to just accuse her of these things.

"Could be, but I have to agree with your mother on this. She could've tried to make it here. Or at least give a call saying that she wasn't gonna be here" my dad added.

"She did call. She called me, what more do you want?" I asked. This was getting a little out of hand.

"Did she sound sick?"

"Yes, she said she was sorry that she had to miss dinner and that she hopes next time you come out we can re do this" I made up the story as I went.

"I guess she must not feel well then. Or you just want to believe everything she says" my mom fired back. Charlotte and my dad had decided to leave this to us, leaving all the food untouched.

"What are you implying?"

"Oh nothing, I just think that you tend to believe anything that she says. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that you believed all her lies."

"She doesn't lie" well not counting this "She is a honest person. Who I don't blame for wanting to miss out on a dinner if this is how you guys think of her."

"I don't think she's a bad person, I just think that she lies."

"Why are you being like this? I thought you liked her," I asked. This seemed to come out of nowhere, I thought they really liked her.

"I never said that I disliked her, I just think that she has two faces. I just don't want to see you hurt because you can't see her other side." She leaned forward and folded her hands.

"I can see her other side just fine. It's me who-" I closed my eyes and took a deep breath.

"Honey it's you who what?" She asked. My dad leaned forward, now interested in the conversation.

"It's nothing, can we just have a nice dinner? I mean that is why we decided to have this right?" I asked changing the subject. I didn't want to believe Y/n when she mentioned me trying to make her like Charlotte.

"I didn't mean to upset you Max. I'm sorry if it can across as that" my mom 'apologized'

I smiled, not really focused on what I was saying "It's oaky. I just don't wish to hear about how much you don't like my girlfriend." That was a strange word for me to describe y/n... I hope it stays.

She sighed "Max I don't hate her, she's just not who I'd pick for you."

"Oh and who would that be? Charlotte?" I asked gesturing to Charlotte.

"Am I supposed to take the as a bad thing?" Charlotte asked, but we weren't paying attention to her. For once.

"Well yes, I think we all know I'd rather see you with her than some girl. Is that such a bad thing?"

I leaned back in my chair staring at my mom in shock. I can't believe that she would say something like this. For my entire life she's been nothing but supportive of me. I thought this wouldn't be different "Yes it is. I finally find someone who I really like, and I mean really like, and the first thing you do is try to chase her away."

"Max that's not what we're saying. Is it bad that we are stating our opinions?" My dad asked finally adding something.

"No it's not bad, I just wish that you wouldn't continue to talk trash about her."

"Max I think you are taking this to seriously-" My dad started.

"Dad just imagine that someone was sitting here talking badly about Mom. What would you do?"

He was silent for a moment "Well I wouldn't let them."

"Then you will understand why I'm not going to sit around and listen to this." I pushed my chair back and stood up.

"Max where are you going?" Mom asked as I started walking towards the door.

"To go check on my girlfriend" I answered grabbing the keys off the table and walking out the door.

"Max wait!" I heard Charlotte call as I was about to get in the car.

"What do you want?"

"I don't think that it was very nice of your parents to talk about y/n behind her back like that and I-"

"You were talking bad too, don't try to pretend like you're some saint" I interrupted.

She walked around the car and stood right in front of me "I'm sorry for what I said, I didn't know that it would go over that way. But you can't say that they're wrong, can you? We were meant to be together, I know you better than she ever could."

"Like that matters. She makes me happy, doesn't make me feel stupid." I replied. I put my hand in the door handle, ready to pull it open.

She put her hand to the door to stop me, taking a step closer. "If I've ever made you feel like that, I'm so very sorry. All I've ever done was try to be nice to you. Obviously I messed up somewhere down the line."

"Charlotte you're sick. There's something in your brain that loves all the drama, it's almost like you can't live without it. And I'm done with it Charlotte I'm done with you." With that I climbed into the car and started it.

"You don't mean that Max" she stated. I could see her mouth moving, but I couldn't hear it. I also have zero interest in whatever she had to say to me.

By the time I had pulled into her apartment driveway, it was beat down rain. I ran to the building, getting soaked in the process. I walked over to the elevator and pressed the bottom to her floor. As soon as the doors dinged open I made my way down the hall to her door. I took a deep breath before knocking. I heard movement from behind the door.

"Max what do you want?" She asked opening the door. Guess she looked through the peephole.

"I just wanted to say that you were right. I shouldn't of tried to make you more like Charlotte. You are absolutely amazing just the way you are. I'm so so sorry that I was a jerk and I now understand why you didn't want to go to that dinner with me" I rambled out. I took a deep breath and watched her face. She looked shocked for a second before setting her face back to neutral.

"Is that all you want to sat? Because if that's it-" she stepped back and started to close the door.

"Wait!"

She looked up at me, opening the door Yeah back up. So many thoughts were running around in my head about what to do. What to say. So I did the one thing that would make it or break it.

I kissed her.
