Mia slung her book bag over her shoulder as she got out of her mother's car. Waving goodbye as she drove away, Mia turned towards the school. As she walked to the doors, an unfamiliar guy bumped into her.
"Excuse you," she grumbled.
He turned looking grumpy, but soon gave an unsettling smirk. He looked her up and down, his smile growing. Mia suddenly got the feeling she needed a million showers.
"Hey," He snickered. "I know you. You were at that shitty party last night in that little skirt. Friends with Harrington? I'm Billy."
"You're the new douche," Mia rolled her eyes.
"New douche? As in I'm taking King Steve's place?" He smiled, stepping too close for comfort.
"There's no place to be taken," Mia argued. "Now get out of my way, I need to get to class."
"Hold on there, how about you tell me your name?" He said, placing his hand on Mia's shoulder.
"Mia and I don't like to be touched by assholes like you," She spat. "Get off and out of my way."
"What's your damage? I'm sure you'd love what I can do for you," He snarled.
"Get off!" Mia exclaimed pushing him away with no avail. He tried to snake his arm her waist.
"She said get off."
Mia breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Steve's face. Billy growled and backed off. Steve glared at him as he wandered into school and down the halls. He then turned to Mia.
"You okay?" He asked.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Mia sighed, straightening out her top. "He's just a horny bastard."
Steve gave a smile, "Let's go."

After school had come to an end, Mia sat in the nearly empty bleachers of the school gym. She struggled to finish the last of her homework while the basketball team practiced rather loudly. Normally, she finished her homework in the library or at home, but Steve had insisted she come to his practice and she needed a time passer.
Mia flinched as Billy knocked Steve to the ground, scoring for his half of the team. She turned to see a group of her old friends, the kind of people she hung out with pre Nancy and Barb, the kind of people Steve used to hangout with. They entered the bleachers and sat down, all three glaring down at Mia.
"You're still pining after Stevie, I see," one chuckled, while the other snickered to theirselves.
"He's my friend," Mia answered simply, not even bothering to look up at them.
"Right, like Jonathan and Nancy are friends?" Another laughed.
"What the hell does that mean?" Mia asked, facing them.
"We all see the way they look at each- speak of the devil," she smirked down at the court, as Nancy entered the gym.
"Steve?" She called, crossing her arms.
Steve called a time out and joined Nancy outside. Mia bit her nails for a moment before giving up on staying out of their relationship drama. She followed her friends outside, just in time to hear the last of their argument.
"Then tell me," Steve begged.
"Tell you what?" Nancy scoffed.
"You love me," Steve said, his voice cracking as he slung his towel around his neck.
