"Mia," Steve whispered.

It was earlier than even the sun liked to be awake. The thought of monster hunting so early made Steve want to scream, and the fact that his bed had mysteriously become a dozen times more comfortable as well as provided him with his secret crush since the first grade, didn't help. The room around him was freezing and he could imagine how cold it was outside, but his bed was warm and comforting. Mia laid silently besides him. She had fallen asleep towards the other direction after insisting he didn't have to sleep on the floor, but now faced Steve, quietly snoring.

"Mia, wake up," he whispered with a smile, trying not to alarm his parents.

"Five more minutes," Mia moaned. "The sun's not up, neither am I."

"Well a demagorgan is," Steve insisted, though he still hadn't even the taken the covers off of himself.

"I'm so sure," Mia said, opening her eyes a bit wider. "It's freezing in here," she complained.

"My dad probably didn't bother to turn on the heater last night," Steve said.

Mia remembered just how reluctant Steve's relationship was with his father. Knowing that, it had always impressed her every time he brought up skipping college and working for his father, just for Nancy. He knew she'd get into a nice school, but she's always come back and he's be there waiting for her. She wondered what would happen now.

"What?" Steve asked with a smirk. Mia hadn't realized until then that she was staring directly at Steve.

"Sorry," Mia mumbled before rolling out of bed.

Once Steve was dressed and they had packed the car with all their supplies, mostly meat, Mia and He were ready to go. They were about to get in the car when Steve's father came outside looking grumpy and exhausted.

"Where are you going?" He asked.

"Just doing some stuff, Dad," Steve said, trying to get in the car before the conversation could continue.

"Too early for that," he groaned. "And what's she doing here?" He asked, gesturing to Mia with a scowl. Just like Mia's father disliked Steve; Steve's father disliked Mia.

"She's just coming with me," Steve rolled his eyes.

"You expect me to believe that?" He asked. "She spent the night here, didn't she?"

Mia's face went bright red and she bit her lip, waiting for Steve's reply.

"Does it matter?" Steve snapped. "We've got to go."

"Don't you-"

Steve and Mia both hopped in the car before his father could finish. Steve floored it, making sure he couldn't stop them.

"He's such an ass," Steve mumbled. "Probably where I get it from."

"You're not an ass," Mia chuckled, resting her elbow on the side of the door and her head on the palm of her hand.

"I am," Steve said. "More than you know."

"How?"

"I think I feel the same way Nancy does," Steve said. He seemed to have just come up with the thought. "I don't think I love Nancy."

"That's mental, of course you love Nancy, you're just dealing with... with a break up," Mia said, not I sure what else to call it.

"No, no, I don't think so," Steve shook his head, narrowing his eyes. He shifted his fingers on the wheel.

Mia wasn't sure what to think. She couldn't tell why Steve would be telling her that. She wasn't sure why he was even thinking that. Anyone who knew anything knew that Steve was absolutely in love with Nancy. Sadly, quite a few people had realized at that point that Nancy wasn't in love, not with Steve anyway.
